amberfocus: (9 Rose Happy)

Yes, it has been.  I did far more driving today than I am accustomed to.  I took the car down to Burlington to have it fabric guarded and paint sealed.  It is an hour long drive from my house.  I got a loaner car from the dealership.  It was a tiny little Yaris, which is not bigger on the inside than the outside like my Matrix is.  And it was a low end one, so didn't eve have cruise control, which is not fun for an hour long drive on the highway or freeway.  But it drove well otherwise.  It was just really loud on the road noise.  So anyway, drove it back home and took a nap from one to three, then picked up my son from school and then headed back to the dealership, then back home again, so all in all I drove four hours today and my back is sore from it.  It is a much nicer trip in my car, with satellite radio or my CD's then regular radio which does not like the foothills much.

A/N:  I was feeling a little bit sorry for Jack at the end of Post Pomp, so wrote this little follow-up one shot for him.

Post Pomp Post Script

Jonathon Ashford Kensington the Fourth, later to be known as Captain Jack Harkness, paced the deck of the good ship Time Salvager. He knew that he had made the correct decision to save the life of the woman he loved, but he couldn’t bear the thought that in less than 12 hours Rose Tyler and everything that had happened in the last two hundred sixty days would be wiped from his mind as if it had never existed.

A/N:  Last chapter.  And everything is now put nicely back into canon.  Dialog you recognize is from Girl in the Fireplace.  There is an epilogue piece that will follow called Post Pomp Post Script, just so you know.

Chapter Twenty-Two:  Five and a Half Hours

“What happened? Where did the time window go? How’s he going to get back?” Mickey asked starting to panic. Rose just stood there, a look of disconsolation on her face as she stared into the future. An empty, lonely future without her Doctor in it. She couldn’t bring herself to tell Mickey what she knew in the very deepest part of her heart; that the Doctor couldn’t get back. It was breaking her spirit and she couldn’t trust herself to speak.

A/N:  And in this chapter we find the return of Mickey and...hope!

Chapter Twenty-One:  Two Hundred Sixty Days - Hour Four Onwards

“What the hell was that?” Jack asked his eyes wide in shock as he strode towards the Doctor.

“It’s called a Reaper,” the Doctor said his tone gone so cold, so brittle, that Jack stopped for a moment.

A/N:  Okay, um...don't kill me. Please don't kill me. I promise you a happy ending. Just remember that when you read this chapter. You might want to have a box of tissues handy, too.

Chapter Twenty:  Two Hundred Sixty Days - Hour Three

When Rose landed in the conservatory and the room stopped spinning she looked around her for Jack and the Doctor. The Doctor sat on a bench, looking dejectedly at the floor. It took everything she had in her to not go straight to him and try to comfort him. Jack was leaning against the wall, one leg bent at the knee as his foot rested behind him, arms crossed, glaring at the Doctor.

A/N:  Jack and the Doctor argue over Rose and Cassi whisks her mother away so Rose can have time to think things through in peace.

Chapter Nineteen:  Two Hundred Sixty Days - Hour Two

Rose froze. Everything but her heart. It thudded painfully in her chest, almost a physical ache at those words. She had longed to hear them, longed to hear them for such a very long time, and never had she thought she would. She had thought hearing them would make her happy. But she couldn’t describe the emotions racing through her as happy.

A/N:  Cassi, Jack and the Doctor arrive back in the 51st century. The two men rush to see Rose. Her reaction is not what either man expected.

Chapter Eighteen:  Two Hundred Sixty Days

Cassi had her ship materialize on the space bucket next to her father’s TARDIS. “We’re going to have to give your old girl a jump start,” Cassi said looking up from the readings she had taken on her monitor.  “She’s lost a lot of power.”

A/N:  The Doctor makes a decision to fight for Rose. So does young Jack. Which man will be more determined?

Chapter Seventeen:  Two Hundred Fifty-Nine Days

The Doctor was highly agitated as he paced the corridor outside his bedroom door. Jack Harkness had gotten in his way once before with Rose. Oh, they’d settled into a friendship in the end that had been acceptable more or less to all of them, but he might have gotten the courage up to tell Rose how he felt sooner if Jack hadn’t been constantly with them.

A/N:  The Doctor and Cassi talk about their relationship and Jack tells the Doctor about what happened to Rose.

Chapter Sixteen:  Two Hundred Fifty-Eight Days

“But why?” the Doctor asked, a whine coming into his tone. Cassi raised her eyes to the ceiling of her TARDIS and didn’t answer him. He knew he was being petulant but he hated not knowing what was going on.

“What are you doing?” he wanted to know. He could very clearly see her lips moving.

“I’m counting to thirty-seven to get my temper under control, just the way Mum taught me,” Cassi said calmly.

A/N:  Rose comes to a decision regarding her feelings and shares it with Mickey. But is it the right decision? Only time will tell.

Chapter Fifteen:  Two Hundred Fifty-Seven Days

Didn’t think I’d ever be writing in here again, Cara. Now that I know you’re not really Cara, that the TARDIS was, it still doesn’t seem wrong to call you that. Ah, well. It doesn’t matter. I’ve the need to put down my thoughts on paper again so here they go.

Jack’s been gone two days now and all I’ve been able to think about is what he said to me just before he left. He wants me. He wants as many years as he can have with me. Even if he has to give me up at some point to keep the universe from going boom, he doesn’t care. He said that he’d rather take that time with me and give it everything he had, than never even try. Because even a limited number of years with me would be worth the heartache later. And he’d have the memories to sustain him.
