Devastate

 

Rose. The word pulses in his mind as he wakes up in the bottom of a strange wooden cubicle. Rose. It pushes at him as he finds the way out into a house that is strange and yet oddly familiar. Rose, as he tries to put things together and figure out how he got trapped in some crazy reality show. Rose, as he watches one girl die and rescues another. Rose, as he finds his way to Jack and the three of them search desperately for his missing life. Rose, as they locate her, burst into the studio and he sees her across the room. Rose, as she runs to him and he runs to her. Rose, as she’s almost in his arms. ROSE! And she’s gone in a destructive burst of laser light.

Going home is hard. I haven’t really thought of my parent’s flat as home in three years even though I still have a room there, but the aching familiarity of the place I grew up in still calls to me. Seeing it shattered through calm eyes is hard.

Silence hangs between us for too long and the Doctor, who’s never met a silence he could just let lie, begins to babble and pace. “It wouldn’t be the first time one of my companion’s eyes changed color. I mean it’s hardly original. Leela did it. ‘Course there was an explosion that triggered it. Did you look into that explosion at the cyber factory?”

To Call Our Own (1/36)

A/N:  The sequel to A Place in Time.  Where we left off...a reunited and newly married Rose and the Doctor had just discovered they were pregnant.  Where we pick up?  Guess.

Chapter One:  Push!

“Push, Rose,” said the Doctor trying to keep the urgency out of his tone. “Push.” She looked down at him then biting her lip, pushing harder, her eyes losing focus. “You have to push, Rose. I can’t do this for you.”

“No, of course not. That would be the easy way, wouldn’t it?” Rose said a little uncharitably, though she tried to keep her tone from getting nasty. She didn’t really mean it, but she was so exhausted right now she couldn’t stop it from coming out of her mouth anyway. Somewhere in the back of her head she knew this wasn’t easy on him either, that he was desperately worried.

Chapter Two:  Hostage

Jack Harkness was not a big fan of being held captive. Not after what the Master had put him through. Of course his life wasn't at any risk like his friends were, but in a way this was worse, because he was left alone and all he could think was that he should be out there helping people, people who were dying and instead he was being used as a hostage to make sure the Doctor came back from a dangerous mission with the cure for the disease that had ravaged the minor southern continent of the planet Dirindia.
