5207 words. Chapter is done. Now I just need to proofread, edit, and beta. Yay. I'm back, baby. I am so excited to be able to write easily again. The flow is there after being gone for so long. Yippee!
amberfocus: (Leap of Faith Icon--Do Not Take)
October 2014. That's the last time I wrote fanfiction. Until today. I have 983 words on the next chapter of Leap of Faith. And I'm inspired. Not just for this chapter, but for the rest of the story. I went away from Doctor Who for a while. I haven't even watched the most recent season. But for some reason I decided to reread Leap of Faith and when I got to the end, well...I want to know what happens next. And since I am the only person who can tell this tale, that's up to me, isn't it? So I sat down and started writing. It's time to see where Toshiko and Owen's relationship is going to go, while they fight for survival in orbit around Neptune. It's time to get back to John and Rose. It's time to see if Martha is going to turn Mickey's head, if Jane will inconveniently give birth at the most inappropriate time, if Marcie will start to age forward again, if Mayumi's regression remains stable, if Gabe's picogenes can be removed from Rose, and whether or not Mike Yates' anger at the Doctor will cause him to reveal John's true identity, destroying everything he's built with Rose.
amberfocus: (Watchmaker's Daughter icon)
Well, I seem to writing again. It's not much, but so far today I've written 663 words on The Watchmaker's Daughter. For the first time in I don't know how long, I don't have any babies due to be born on the farm and all existing babies are out of the danger zone. And I'm not blocked. So hopefully that means it'll start to come easily. Today was a little tough getting started, but I wrote for 20 minutes straight. I'll try to get in another hour tonight. Neither kid has any homework so I don't have to help. No idea when I'll finish this chapter, but I've got it completely plotted in my head, so I am hopeful that it will be up this week.

ETA: Finished the night with 898 words and a clear idea of where I'll be picking up again tomorrow. So far, so good.
amberfocus: (Rose in Red)
Ch. 2 of Fade to Blonde has been sent to beta. Hopefully I'll get to answering comments tonight and can post it tomorrow.

It feels really good to be writing fiction again.
amberfocus: (Plot Bunny--Even the Bunny is Scared)
So...um...you may have noticed me asking some questions.

Woo Hoo )
amberfocus: (There Was Going to Be a Point)
Me: 13
Possible Diabetes: .2
Ongoing knee problems: 153
Sleep: -7 hours
Mood: Surprisingly chipper
Leap of Faith chapter 35: 2506 words (about half done)
Original Fiction: 14,387 words
Self-indulgent poetry: 1
Self-indulgent politicians (all of them): -more money than I want to afford, but thankfully can, though doing major stink-eyes to those raises they all managed to get for themselves)
Killer Snot Monster from Outer Space: 853

Stuff and Other Stuff )

Also, I have been thinking about doing a Doctor/Rose Romance-a-thon ficathon over at [livejournal.com profile] sistersofguh for Valentine's Day. Any interest? The comm has been more or less dormant since BWR took up the fandom slack, but I kind of feel like hosting one as I seem to be coming out of my self-imposed moratorium (i.e. crippling writer's block) on writing fanfic. I need to decide that this week.
amberfocus: (You're What?)
I just finished You're What? Or the rough draft of it all the way to the end. Chapter 48 has been beta'd and I'll post it tomorrow. I'll work on brushing up Chapter 49 over the next two days and likely post it Thursday or Friday and then hopefully Monday for the final chapter, 50. I have also been writing other things in the last week, namely the outline and first 700 words of Pink Moon, trying to finish that stubborn last chapter of It Lies Unwritten which is giving me cats, and working on my original fiction novel. I have written the outline for Loss (Moments in Darkness) and I'll start rereading Leap of Faith and A Sky Without Stars to refamiliarize myself with them as I have been away from them for so long over the next couple of days.

I have probably written 8000 words in the last three hours. I don't even know. I guess the writer's block is over. Keep your fingers crossed for me. This feels good.

...in other words, I'm writing. I'm just scared the words are going to run away. But I sat down and pounded out 3000 words. If I can just do that again tomorrow and the next day and the next, I just might be back to my old self again.

amberfocus: (Chicken!)
Today has been an amazing day. It's sunny, it's warm, I slept last night and had energy today, and I wrote like a maniac. I haven't spent hours writing in ages. And I still want to write more. It has been so long since that has happened! It helps that I now have everything transferred onto the new laptop.

But more importantly we have some new family members. And aren't they just adorable?

Too much cuteness )

And fic is off to beta. Please, please, please, let me keep my groove, because it felt great to type out a whole fic in a few hours time again, just like I used to.

I'm Writing

amberfocus: (Ten2 and Rose--Double Beach Kiss)
I'm writing again for the first time in weeks, a little one shot for the Fixathon. I'm about halfway through it. I'm hopeful I can finish it tonight. I have to take a break for T's tae kwon do class though. Hopefully that won't throw off my stride. It was nice to have a prompt grab me and I'm actually eyeing a second one, too.

1.  People who do not use their blinkers to signal their intentions on the freeway during rush hour.

2.  People who tailgate when you are already going 5 mph over the speed limit and there is NO ONE in the passing lane, conditions are good, and they still will not pass you.

3.  People who pass you and then proceed to slow down to 5 mph slower than the speed limit.

4.  People that pass a semi-truck (lorry for you Brits) and do not give them enough room so that they have to slam on their brakes and fishtail, risking every other life on the freeway.

5.  People entering traffic who are supposed to yield but refuse to.

Can you tell I had to drive on the freeway today?

Also, to not leave things on a totally negative note, seen on a t-shirt in the high school parking lot:

Haikus are easy
But they don't always make sense
Refrigerator

I will be glad when school is out.

I appear to be over my writer's block (or perhaps canon cockblock is a better term).  Things are coming along slowly but surely.

I am rewatching Fringe. Spoilers if you've not seen Fringe and intend to watch it which you really should, I mean come on, JJ Abrams out Josses Joss )

Why are there not more Fringe/Doctor Who Pete's World crossover fics?  The setup is perfect, much better than some of the ones I've seen for other shows.
