I need hugs. Specifically Doctor/Rose hugs. I'm looking for your very favorite hugging icons. If my readers would be so lovely as to respond to this post with their favorite Nine/Rose or Ten/Rose or both hug icons, I would be so very, very happy. Thanks, lovies.
And also, is it evil of me to wish a life changing event on Stephen Moffat that prevents him from manning the helm of Doctor Who in 2010? Because he's moving right up there in the want to slap him even more than RTD line, but for a far better reason. Does he really have to insult Rose? Does he not like the female portion of the fandom? *grumbles* Something akin to dropping him in a deep dark hole and only allowing him out to write one brilliant episode a year (like Blink) and making him stay in there if he tries to introduce another love interest would be good. This is why:

At this point I wouldn't even be adverse to him winning the lottery if it meant he'd stay away from Who and stop Rose bashing.

Date: 2008-08-04 10:10 am (UTC)As much as I love Rose in fanfic and loved her in season 1 (Yay for Eccleston!Doctor) I think he has a point there. Rusty did write her a needy girlfriend, who pines after the Doctor and can never be happy without him (so he gives her Clone!Doctor as a sextoy, how degrading is that).
The whole return of Rose in season 4 was kind of pointless (like the whole companionreunion in the TARDIS) and if they can't write her a decent story I'd prefer they dont write her at all and leave her for talented fanficwriters (such as yourself) to play with.

Date: 2008-08-04 10:37 am (UTC)As for Rose, I think the Doctor was just as needy as she was. They were both a big ball of needy messiness. He could write her properly. He did in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. He can write strong women. He just chooses not to with her since then and then badmouths her. That's what bothers me. But feel free to disagree, I have no problems with other opinions. *smiles*

Date: 2008-08-04 11:19 am (UTC)Sorry I have my own issues with how nasty and petty Moffatt has been, and that was before he slammed Rose.

Date: 2008-08-04 11:54 am (UTC)Also it seems that they want the Doctor to be alone, in fact Julie Gardener said so in the Dr Who confidential that followed JE. Why would anyone want that - we all know he needs Rose!

Date: 2008-08-04 12:28 pm (UTC)Duh! I don't care. Rose is safe in Pete's world, with her family and Ten II. They're happy and very much in love. And travelling in the New Tardis.
The Doctor. Inside the tardis. With Rose Tyler. As it should be.
We KNEW Moffat wouldn't bring Rose back. And his misogyny is well known too.
He can call Rose needy, have you met River Song?
His Eleven is going to be a jerk with an even bigger god complex, snapping at his oldest and most loyal friend and starring down at armies.
NOT my Doctor. Not Rose's Doctor.
I don't think Rose would be at her place by this new man's sides.
Maybe, in an Alt!world, where he hasn't push her away towards his other's self wating arms, he didn't become like that.
But that's fan fiction, now...
*snif*
About Moffat insulting Rose, I heard, he was joking... Well, weird sense of humour, don't you think?

Date: 2008-08-06 11:03 am (UTC)I don't know. He's always saying things and then saying he was just kidding. Tends to be a defense mechanism in people who don't want to own up to their insults, in my experience.

Date: 2008-08-04 03:18 pm (UTC)That Moffat particular comment, as it happens, was delivered tongue-in-cheek by all accounts.
I mean, I still don't like how that man handles women in his episodes (River was one giant WTF, especially the part where an adventuring archaeologist's perfect afterlife is a house and children what?), but I still don't take that one line too too hard.

Date: 2008-08-04 03:39 pm (UTC)Thats my two cents anyway.
I am slightly worried with what he's going to do what is essentially supposed to be a family show. A lot of season four wasn't really family friendly, I mean thats what Torchwood is for isn't it. Dr Who is supposed to be the middle ground between TW and SJA, but with Moffett at the helm we could see this funny great show go down the pan as he attempts to remake what RTD has built.
I for one hope he doesn't do that. Also regarding the Julie Gardner comment, why does the Doctor have to be unhappy? Is that what we're teaching the youngsters that watch this show, that being happy isn't something that is attainable?

Date: 2008-08-04 04:11 pm (UTC)That's not to say I don't adore Rose, because I do. I'm here, no? :P What I do think they should be doing (and I'm quite angry that they aren't) is have more Eccleston/Rose books written. I'd even take Tennant/Rose, if they kept the writing quality up. This they could do realistically, and make a lot of fans happy.
Sorry, no hug icons from me :(

Date: 2008-08-06 11:16 am (UTC)I wish desperately they would write more Nine/Rose books. There were not enough. There weren't even enough Ten/Rose books.

Date: 2008-08-04 05:36 pm (UTC)As for SM...I don't know much about UK newspapers, but from what I understand, "The Sun" is more "National Enquirer" than "Washington Post". Designed to stir up at every opportunity. From what I've read from others, it was cleverly taken out of context and made to sound serious.
I also don't always trust print quotes. They have entire courses on how the media reports, particularly with how they think the public will take the information, and to be honest, I'm not entirely impressed. I've seen quotes taken straight out of context - in one article, a man (who, if anyone met his mother and his wife, would NEVER have been able to accuse him of dominance or misogyny) who made a crack at his (male) tennis partner got turned into a misogynistic threat.
I would put more in stock in how SM writes episodes than what a tabloid reporter said. Sure, Rose was kind of needy in the Reinette episode; but this was also Rose who saved her and carried a big gun. SM wrote Rose trying to save a little boy, and who, when she discovered she's flying through the London Blitz makes a crack about her tee-shirt and her cell phone, and manages to con the conman temporarily. This is the same guy who said in "Confidential" for "DD" that the subtext of the show was that the Doctor is hopelessly in love with Rose and trying to impress her.
He sounds like he'll just do anything for a laugh; his tongue-in-cheek "explanation" for how the "EC" tape recorder ended up with an English doctor during WWII had me laughing. As Barrowman said afterwards, "Your nose is now a mile long!"
I'm more concerned about his habit of making the Doctor fall in love with everyone who seems to cross his path.
Still, I'm glad RTD gave closure to the Rose storyline. The Doctor isn't RTD's, but Rose is, and I'm not sure I would have trusted Rose with someone else, SM or otherwise.

Date: 2008-08-06 11:19 am (UTC)I know the Sun isn't the best, but the thing is, he is always making these snarky comments, even on DWC and then backpeddaling and I just get so tired of it. I think he's the needy one, has a need for attention.
I don't like him writing all these love interests either. The Doctor is not an intergalactic playboy.

Date: 2008-08-04 06:26 pm (UTC)My computer totally agrees with you. Every time I try to open the Sun article about Moffit talking about "needy Rose", Firefox totally crashes!
And while my icon isn't a lovely hug, it is a lovely kiss - does that help? ;-)

This one is mine and is waaaaaaaay too big for LJ size limits. ;) I'm going to cut it down and try to get it under the limit eventually! For now, I use it on one of the forum boards I'm a member of. ;)
And of course, I immediately thought of this one as soon as I read that interview the other day:

And 'nuff said. ;) I'm REALLY hoping he was just taken out of context and meant it in a joking way, which just didn't come across in print. However, the way that things went in the finale really made me feel like they were closing the door on all of the RTD-era characters like Rose, Martha, Jack and Donna and all of their families, so that everything after this will be a sort of clean slate (except for River; I have no doubt we'll be seeing her again :| <-- blank face smiley isn't betraying any emotion on that one ;) ). Like I said, that's just my feeling on it and I hope I'm wrong and we eventually get more and better resolution for Rose/human!Ten and Donna. *fingers crossed* ;)
And here's a *hugs* just for you before I go! ;) ♥!

Date: 2008-08-05 02:14 am (UTC)I am disappointed to hear Moffat trashing anything about Davis's Doctor Who, that's just poor form. Very tacky indeed! Besides, he's got no leg to stand on with snoggy Reinette and UGH River Song in his repertoire.

Date: 2008-08-06 10:55 am (UTC)I'm hoping... and have been reassured by a few folks, that Stephen Moffat was joking, but I think in a time when a lot of Who fans are feeling a little unsettled, it was more than a bit unsensitive and I'm still a bit peeved.
Fingers crossed he doesn't muck up Season Six. :) If we're calling the four specials a season... *so confused*
Oh... and... HUG icon for you!
