I will probably watch it tonight some time, but I did pick up on the main spoiler and I had already figured it out so I'm not particularly sure I even want to watch it at this point. That thing that some of you were waiting for is up now.
And anyway, we are leaving in less than an hour to go pick up our new car, a 2011 Salsa Red Toyota Sienna mini-van with every bell and whistle you can think of. I am much more excited to do that than to watch an episode of DW that seems to have raised the hackles of 90% of the RTD leaning/Moffat hating fandom. *sighs*
Maybe tonight I will have some time to write. It has been a crazy weekend.

Without even watching it, I don't know, I may be done with Who as long as Moffat is involved. I just -- I don't know, not even Matt Smith is enough to overcome my anger at how Moffat is so dismissive and, yes, I'm saying it, downright cruel, in his complete dismissal and trashing of the beautiful Doctor/Rose story. God, it happened, four years of it, deal with it, get over your issues and stop screwing a large portion of the NuWho-watching audience. Ugh.
Sorry. Breathe, Jen.

Date: 2011-06-05 07:12 pm (UTC)You know what, never mind, I'm not going here. I watched s5, I disliked, liked, adored some episodes, but s6 has been very blah and underwhelming for me and I despise that Moffat has made me dislike a character played by an actress I adore because of his craptastic character-writing. I've moved on, I have a different fandom, and I'm just not doing this, and I'm certainly not going to defend my opinion in another's journal.

Date: 2011-06-06 02:19 am (UTC)On the downside, I willingly got up at 5:00 am to watch the download... I WANT to like it, but I feel like I'm trying so darn HARD to like DW right. It shouldn't be like that. I shouldn't have to try -- it should just... happen. My initial reaction was, "WOW that was AMAZING."
But after back and reflecting a few hours later, I was less blown away. The performances were great. I actually had sympathy for Amy in this episode. Rory, as always, was wonderful. I loved the Victorian crime fightin' sistahs, and the Sontoran nurse was a kick. However, regarding the River reveal (I had spoiled myself beforehand, I usually do), I had really held out hope for something more Whovian... something with some classic Who history and backstory. But it just turned out to be yet another addition to the already self-contained world that SM has created... I feel like four decades of Whovian history have been chucked out the window.
I know I'm probably over reacting, but darn... it just makes me sad.

Date: 2011-06-06 02:48 am (UTC)My other problem is that the Doctor seems to actually be enjoying killing people. He never gloated before when he had to defeat an enemy. Before, he always tried to get the bad guy to change, offered them a chance to do the right thing. And he obviously regretted whenever he had no choice but let someone die.
I haven't watched "A Good man" yet, but from the spoilers, it seems like SM has gotten even more off the family show and into a sci fi soap opera.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

Date: 2011-06-06 08:29 am (UTC)In the episode near the beginning of the series, when the doctor drops river back off at the prison, she kisses him, and asks him if they had ever done that before, he said no, she said that it wouldn't happen again, as if they only kiss the once and that was it. It implied that they weren't a couple.
I had a feeling that she was who she is at the beginning of the episode, and I may be in the minority here but I liked the idea. The fandom has had so many ideas on who she could be since we first met her, and nobody came up with this one.
