Random New Doctor Thoughts
Jan. 3rd, 2009 10:37 amAll I can say is that at least it looks like the Doctor will still have great hair, at least if they cut off that mullety thing on the back of his head.
Okay, that's not all I can say. I can also wonder what they're going to do with such a young Doctor. I'm hoping we get away from the whole sex symbol thing because I really don't want to see the Doctor shagging his way across the universe and you just know that with SM in charge of things that could be a real possibility. Yes, I know it's a children's show. I'm just not sure sometimes that SM knows it's a children's show.
Wonder if they'll still go the River Song route now? Certainly they'd have to cast a much younger actress in the role.
Least there's a good shot now that any companion he has it won't look quite so much like he's robbing the cradle. Not that that wasn't fun with Nine/Rose and Ten/Rose, but still...
Also, Matt Smith...brings new meaning to the quote, "There should always be a Smith on the TARDIS."
Okay, yeah, shutting up now.

I was most impressed by two things — one, that he had such presence, because boys/men that age usually don't. The other was his body awareness, how much he was able to change his body language to differentiate between the two characters. Strangely enough, the last really young actor (although he was 27, it was his first major role) to make me sit up and notice about those two things was Christopher Eccleston in Let Him Have It. That bodes well for him, I think!
I've just been catching up on e-mail and saw your flooding. Wow. So glad you got out. Has it gone down now?

People are living on the second floors of their houses and getting around by inflatable rafts and row boats in one of the communities. Our main highway is still closed due to a major mudslide, but fortunately I can get up and down the mountain okay by using the South Pass. We're home now. Or at least my daughter and I are. My son is staying with his grandmother until tomorrow.
