All I can say is that at least it looks like the Doctor will still have great hair, at least if they cut off that mullety thing on the back of his head.

Okay, that's not all I can say.  I can also wonder what they're going to do with such a young Doctor.  I'm hoping we get away from the whole sex symbol thing because I really don't want to see the Doctor shagging his way across the universe and you just know that with SM in charge of things that could be a real possibility.  Yes, I know it's a children's show.  I'm just not sure sometimes that SM knows it's a children's show.

Wonder if they'll still go the River Song route now?  Certainly they'd have to cast a much younger actress in the role.

Least there's a good shot now that any companion he has it won't look quite so much like he's robbing the cradle.  Not that that wasn't fun with Nine/Rose and Ten/Rose, but still...

Also, Matt Smith...brings new meaning to the quote, "There should always be a Smith on the TARDIS."

Okay, yeah, shutting up now.

Well, I've just finished watching him in The Ruby in the Smoke and The Shadow of the North and there is this one scene where he and Billie Piper are running away from an explosion and I think, yeah, maybe he's gonna make it as the Doctor.

My first thought....they'll have to cut his hair!!! :D

The kids will like him, I think, we'll just have to wait and see x

Yes, definitely. Otherwise no one will take him seriously as the final authority on everything. I think he will definitely appeal to kids, but then they're easy to please when it comes to TV.

*giggling hysterically*
I agree about River, especially since in the Library episode she said he looked so young(Ten). Now that remark won't make any sense if the Doctor she meets is Eleven.
Just my opinion.

They still might be able to work around it, but I hope not. I don't want anything to do with her. I've never taken such an intense dislike to a character who wasn't evil before.

He's worked with Billie Piper before so, wishful thinking here, if BP should come back they'd be a great match.

I'd like to see him in a one-off episode with Ten2 and Rose. That could be very interesting.

Yeah, the hair needs a bit of cutting and styling, but has loads of potential.

I really liked Matt in "Ruby in the Smoke" and "Shadow in the North", so that gives me hope for good things out of him. God, he's young, though. He's a full DECADE younger than I am. That's just...wrong. XP

No shagging across the universe or companion romance, PLEASE! And no River Song...no nookie on the TARDIS! (at least...if it's not Rose! lol)

I'm willing to give him a chance. He has good hands too, which is very nice. Nine and Ten will always be closest to my heart, but I love the show and I will watch. Also, since he is young, maybe he will be able to give it several years? And I wasn't crazy about the whole River Song story line anyway. :)

I've never really been disappointed by any of the Doctors so I'm hoping that tradition will continue. They had to see something in him to cast him in such a pivotal role. I'd rather think that then that they gave up because they knew no one could match DT or CE for charisma.

Hmmm. Turns out I've seen him in quite a lot of things... and promptly forgot all about him, or didn't notice he was there. I'm not sure whether this is good or not! But if they were going to go that young, I'd have wished for Harry Lloyd, myself, because even though he's been on DW, he's quite the chameleon.

Who did Harry Lloyd play?

He played Baines/"Son of Mine" in Human Nature/Family of Blood, which, granted, was a big part. But very impressive, IMO, and I usually am not all that impressed with young actors. I've seen him in a few other things, and he's a good chameleon for someone his age (I think he's 23!). Plus, he has both quietness and power, which I think would be an excellent contrast to Ten and great foil for someone who could be seen as "young". I did a quick Google search for pictures, and I think he can shift the way he looks by an expression or tilt of the head very well. With longer hair and less crazy, I don't think he'd have been as obvious "Hey, it's that guy!" as Paterson Joseph would have been.

It says I need a password to view that album. But I know who you mean. He creeped me out desperately. But I saw him in the interview in confidential and he just looked so normal so I can see what you mean.

Photobucket evidently default locks a folder. Great. Now I know! Anyway, I've now made a password "baines" - I'm just curious to see if it works!

Creeping people out, I think, should be a power that the Doctor has. I was most impressed by two things — one, that he had such presence, because boys/men that age usually don't. The other was his body awareness, how much he was able to change his body language to differentiate between the two characters. Strangely enough, the last really young actor (although he was 27, it was his first major role) to make me sit up and notice about those two things was Christopher Eccleston in Let Him Have It. That bodes well for him, I think!

I've just been catching up on e-mail and saw your flooding. Wow. So glad you got out. Has it gone down now?

Date: 2009-01-12 03:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com
Yeah, it worked and he doesn't look like the same person in any of them. I mean, you can tell if you look really closely, but he is definitely a real chameleon.

Yeah, the flooding has gone down, in our area at least. There are a few places in the county that are still inundated with water. People are living on the second floors of their houses and getting around by inflatable rafts and row boats in one of the communities. Our main highway is still closed due to a major mudslide, but fortunately I can get up and down the mountain okay by using the South Pass. We're home now. Or at least my daughter and I are. My son is staying with his grandmother until tomorrow.

Matt worked also with Billie on Secret diary. He was a client who didn't want to leave her room!
Ha! Now, does that inspire you?
*smiles and hopes so*
And, yes, maybe they'll cast a young River. Maybe she's the new Sarah Jane/Reinette, the one he keeps on meeting, when she's young, when she's older... and the day of her death.

Yeah, I've seen him in a few things now, but I think I'd have a hard time really seeing him as a love interest for Rose. To me she belongs to Nine or Ten or Ten2.

My first reaction to him was "holy crap!" But really, I think it was just the hair...... That's always been my big decider on things. A good, new style would make him a lot better.

I'm always going to love Nine and Ten most, but I love the show and I will still watch it. I hope they don't the the whole River Song thing. I never was too crazy about that. And if Rose comes back..... Well then..... ;)

It was bad hair. But he has really good, shiny hair in a couple of the things I've seen him do, so hopefully we'll get to see that and not the disaster he had on his head in the confidential.

i'm certainly not crazy on hiom looks wise. i was hoping for someone quite a bit older because (aside form fantasies) that would make it more likely to get a man on the tardis as muscle. i liked both harry sullivan and jack being there with a woman - good dynamic. i think a lot of romance fanficcers will stay with 10 at least for a while

hopefully he can act and stuill manage to bring the "i have see terrible things in my many many years of life" attitude

My first thought was OMG he's 12. And I think because the Doctor was such a strong part of my childhood it's disconcerting to have a Doctor who makes you feel old.

However I remind myself that I was disappointed at the end of season 1 to see CE go only to then fall in love with DT's Doctor. So I'm telling myself not to be disappointed this time unless he actually disappoints.

Yeah, David Tennant is the first one who was ever younger than me at the time of filming and that was only by a year or two. I was hoping for someone in their forties or older this time around, but I will give him a chance.

All I can say is:
If they wanted to get rid of the Doctor/Rose shippers, they probably should not have cast someone who has shared pretty much half his screen time with Billie Piper." I'm just saying...

*high fives you*

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw his name. I was like "Hmm, Sarah-Jane would be pleased." *grins*

But I'm honestly not all that worried. Well, TBH right now all I"m doing is worrying about all the tears I'll shed when Ten finally regenerates, to be too worried about Eleven.

One things for sure, I won't be lusting after him and I won't be able to read smut with him. He's just too young for me.

Date: 2009-01-11 10:57 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] amberfocus.livejournal.com
*giggles* Yeah, seeing David leave is going to be very sad, I think. I hope they do it well and not make it happen to him when he's alone. I'd love it if he did it to save someone's life, like Donna's.

Definitely no lusting here. And I don't even think I'll be able to write him smutty if they pair him with someone I like. Never say never but I don't think it's gonna happen.

OMG, he's a baby. I foresee a lot of situations where The Doctor is not taken seriously because of his apparent physical age...If not, then SM is kidding himself.

I will give the kid a chance, but I really want to see his, 'I am so old, you cannot imagine all that I've seen' look that DT and CE were able to touch my soul with.

I know nobody's posted here for a while but I wanted to comment on the age thing a bit. Matt Smith may be the youngest actor to be the doctor but there was one actor younger than David to take up that mantel. Peter Davidson was only 29 when he played the doctor, a mere three years older than Matt when he donned his cricket outfit with celery on the lapel and he did the role well for his time in the Tardis and he had to follow Tom Baker who until Tennant was the most popular doctor of the time.

Considering that Amy is engaged to be married, I don't think there will be any romance between her in the doctor, at least I hope not. Maybe the new hubby can join them later on as an intergalactic honeymoon. And in the previews I saw, I saw flashes of the actress who played River Song. I don't know if she's reprising her role or not. Though when she talks about the doctor's age she talks about his eyes, not his physical form. Who's to say when he's gonna meet River in her own personal time line after all. We first met her at the end of her life.
