General Long and Rambly Update
Sep. 5th, 2010 07:49 pmSo I swam 34 laps today. It would have been more, I still had a half hour before family swim ended, but some of the other kids (not mine!) were misbehaving so badly in the pool it was ridiculous. Eight times I had to stop my laps and throw floaties, noodles and kickboards out of the lap lane. Some of the kids (15 and 16 year olds were hanging over the lap lane rope, too. A few strategically placed above the water kicks to splash water in the faces of anyone doing that soon put paid to that behavior. Yes, childish, but I don't care. I got enough splashes in my face and water up the nose while doing the back stroke to think turnabout is fair play.

This is Getting Ridiculous
Mar. 28th, 2010 11:30 pmAnyway, they got into the house and then tore both the alarm panel and the alarm box off the wall, but then they went out the back door because the deadbolt was undone. I think they planned to tear off the alarm and try to come back again later to steal stuff. Nothing was taken this time either and the police were on the scene pretty quickly. We took an hour or so to get there.
The long and the short of it is we rented a U-Haul and today and over the course of the next few days we are simply getting everything out of there. Just shoveling it into boxes and moving it to storage. Chris was able to fix the alarm and the alarm panel. Having an electrical engineer in the family is a good thing. If he hadn't been able to do it it would have cost $200 for ADT to come out and fix it and we would have had to wait until Thursday. But it's working, we tested it. Chris then went through and drilled holes and put long screws into place so that none of the windows can be opened even if they break the lock and the wooden pegs. We also left on all the security lights.
I am hoping that's the end of it, but we will be out there early in the morning and all day for the next several days until it's all packed up and out of there and the locked U-Haul will be parked there so it's obvious people are about. Chris's dad and my mom will be helping some, but I don't know how much at this point. My mother tends to drive me crazy in situations like this though. Hopefully that won't be the case too much this time.
I have to make arrangements for the piano to be moved tomorrow. That's the only thing I am worried about at all. There is nothing of real value left, just stuff nobody really cares about which will eventually get garage saled or given to charity or something. Downsizing is something I'm really big on right now. I will never be a packrat or over consumer again, or allow my family to be. I will be so happy when it's all taken care of and we can get on to fixing it up and selling the blasted thing.
Anyways, with all the packing and moving this week I don't know what kind of a posting schedule I'll be able to maintain. I'm writing on the car ride back and forth but that's about it. Chapter nine of LoF is almost finished, so that one at least won't take too long to go up. Probably not tomorrow though.
Amy, I'm still thinking about you and your son and keeping you in my prayers, but I likely won't be around for chatting at all for a while. Sorry, I was hoping to. *HUGS*

Criminal Minds
Mar. 26th, 2010 05:15 pmAnyway, they did manage to jimmy the lock and the police found it open about 2 inches, but the alarm scared them off and they didn't take anything. They didn't even go inside, they just rabbited, it sounds like. Not that there is anything in that house that we really care about except the piano, which would hurt if it had to be replaced because I love my piano, but since we got it for free I wouldn't be out any money. It would be hard to steal a piano of course, but it could have been vandalized.
I'm just glad Chris came home yesterday because I wouldn't have wanted to deal with this by myself. We spent a good portion of the day out there sorting everything out and I still have dinner to make and about 3 hours of homeschooling lessons to do since we lost most of the day. If I have time tonight I'll post the next chapter of Leap of Faith. If not, I'll post it tomorrow.
