A/N: The Doctor and Rose discover some news that doesn't bode well for some of their loved ones. Jack and Andromeda visit a nearby pleasure island. Not that type of pleasure! But very fluffy to make up for the very unfluffy beginning. No pack, they're still enroute.

Chapter Eleven: Hand of Sorrow, Hand of Joy

The Doctor frowned as he looked into the eyepiece of the microscope. He’d been keeping an eye on the progress of Cassi’s bultungin virus test for Daniel, and hoping to maybe speed the process along with some extra slides of her blood culture he’d taken from what was left in the vial after Daniel had finished his own testing.

A/N: The romance kicks up between Jack and Andromeda, Cassi is recovering from her bite wound, no pack appearance at all, and Dare, Mars, and Tegan arrive on the planet Boeotia.

Chapter Ten: What I've Done

Andromeda rose from the darkness on a wave of pain that crested and withdrew slowly, leaving her numb. It was very much like the time when as a child she had grabbed a hold of a barbed wire fence charged with electricity. It had left her feeling burnt out for days, a remembered tingling of fire that faded slowly into nothingness.

She tried to move but became aware of something heavy holding her in place as if she were bound and as she tried to shift it away from her she felt other aches and pains rise to the surface. She struggled to regain her conscious mind and forced her eyes to open.

A/N: The Doctor and Rose help Daniel care for their daughter Cassi, Acheron and his pack rent a light ship on the planet Danzibar to pursue The Conquered Goddess, and Andromeda loses control with Jack as the bonding link completes its circle and takes things out of both their hands.

Chapter Nine: Loss of Control

“Bultungin virus?” the Doctor asked his eyes darkening. “You think Cassi may have contracted bultungin?”

“The possibility exists, yes,” Daniel Harper said staring down his father-in-law. “She was bitten by an Orion pack hunter, some of which carry bultungin in their junk DNA. The laboratory on Philia isn’t as extensive as the one on your TARDIS. I can run the tests here.”

A/N: So, an hour later and still with the insomnia, so I thought, why not transfer over another chapter of Andromeda Rising? After all, a little Jack Harkness charm never hurts anyone. A little Jack/Andromeda romance is a good thing. Of course there's all kinds of other stuff happening. Basically, Cassi is treated for her injury but may have a pathogen in her blood. Acheron punishes Procyon for his bungled attack. Jack and Andromeda spend a day at sea. Previous chappies can be found by clicking on the Andromeda Rising tag. I'm too out of it to go and hunt up the links, my lovelies.

Chapter Eight: Of Packs and Pods

Dare materialized inside the subsystems room and with Daniel’s help the two men got Cassi inside and into the infirmary. Dare held the shirt against Cassi’s wound, her fingers having got too weak from the blood loss, while Daniel got the medical equipment ready. Like his father, Daniel was a medical doctor on Earth. Unlike his father he had gotten a degree in interspecies physiology and treatment procedures on Rigel. Not that treating his wife was that different from treating a full human being, but every bit of knowledge helped.

Daniel had washed up while the TARDIS was enroute to the subsystems room. “Okay, pull the shirt away and then go get disinfected,” he said to Dare, moving in quickly to put clamps on the torn blood vessels before carefully reattaching them with a small pen-sized device that glowed blue as it worked. The Doctor had jiggered it for him ten years ago and it had never failed him. It was similar to his sonic screwdriver in a way but only had two functions, reattaching or severing blood vessels, though in a pinch Daniel had discovered it would also cut through ¼ inch thick cable or chain link fencing.

Chapter Seven: Pick a Destination

Procyon was confused. It wasn’t a state he was used to being in. He had managed to track the girl he’d picked as prey for quite awhile, but then her scent had ended in the middle of a wall. There were no doors, windows, service hatches or air vents. It simply stopped, as if the girl had disappeared into thin air.

Teganna Tyler sighed and turned over the book she’d been studying for the past three hours. What she had learned was making her sick to her stomach. “The more I read about the Orion pack hunters, the worse I feel,” she told Mars.

“What did you learn?” he asked, putting a finger down to mark his spot in the book he’d been reading.
