amberfocus: (Ten and Donna)

and one little question about episode five.

Entire post is SPOILED so don't read it if you don't want to hear my musings.

So, they're giving him a kid, huh?  Not too crazy about that idea.  Yeah, that's me of the baby!fic saying that.  And they showed his hand in a jar a couple of times.  So my theories...  He knows who she is because she'd have to be in his head when they meet if she's his daughter, right?  She might have been able to shield before or...if she's just come off the loom she wasn't sentient until the moment the TARDIS heard her, slammed the doors and took off.  But my idea is definitely that she was loomed.  Although there could be partial cloning, but I hope not.  I don't think they dare do a natural born child or it'll seriously whack the integrity of the show.  Not that I don't want to see a baby with Rose, but...it's not Doctor Who, not really.  Anyway, I think the Master is responsible, it's something he set in place last season before he was killed and it's only just come to fruition.  He had that hand for a long time, and then he had the Doctor for a long time so access to DNA would be easy.

Kind of looks like she's being trained as an uber weapon or soldier, which the Doctor would absoultely hate and the Master would know it would destroy part of him.  I do wonder where they are going with this.  It seems very off for Doctor Who.  Although I do wonder if we won't see a Master clone at some point in the future, but that's another ramble.

Just thinking out loud.  If you comment and you've been spoiled for anything past episode six, please don't leave it in the comments.  I'm trying to not be spoiled for the end of the season.

As for the question on episode 5, wouldn't igniting the atmosphere also burn up all the oxygen?  I don't think my science is that faulty, but stuff burns because of oxygen on this planet and it stops burning when all the oxygen is gone, so wouldn't it have been just as bad as the stuff he was trying to burn?  Did I miss something when he was explaining the device he was using?  I know he said something about terraforming but I didn't hear any real explanation about it not taking out the oxygen.

Maybe she's loomed by the Master - half Master half Doctor?

I would LOL. And all the Doctor/Master OTPers would rejoice i think. Or cry.

Now what if the female part of the equation came from Lucy Saxon? She is blond and fine-boned. Ooo, wouldn't that be interesting?

Ooooooooooooh! The plot would thicken nicely...followed by it growing arms and stabbing you just for the evil fun of it!!

Also, let me just say, your stories are awesome. I don't think I've said that to you yet. :D

Yeah. Hopefully they're that inventive. What I wouldn't do to go in and whack some of the writer's heads together sometimes.

I'm glad you like my fics, thanks!

Like the child of Lex Luthor and Superman I heard about so long ago. Someone (I think it was Lex) used stolen DNA from Superman and mixed it with Lex's DNA to create Superboy(?) Trying to add Superman's power with Lex's brain with someone who he could possibly control. The last bit backfired on him. I'm not sure on all the details because it was a long time ago and I only hear it second hand but it's all I can think of now you've said that.

My rationalization is that the Doctor somehow calibrated the device to only burn up the toxins (that's why he was fiddling with it before he set it off). I had the same thought as you, though...I just kinda stuck my fingers in my ears and went "la la la" at the bad science. ;)

As for next week...I think she's some sort of clone, but that's just MHO. I haven't seen any spoilers beyond what we saw in the trailer and I think I want to keep it that way. I've seen loads and loads of different theories, and all are good, so I have no idea what will be the real scenario.

Yeah, he must have done. The problem with her being a clone is that she'd have to be a male, though. Otherwise there is far more going on. Now grown in a vat for many years like Luke from SJA would make sense, though. I hope it turns out good whatever they do, because I'd hate to go back to the days of shoddy Whoness towards the ends of the classic series.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she's some kind of clone or whatnot--something like Luke Smith rather than a born-of-a-woman daughter. Ought to be interesting.

Only pure oxygen reacts combustively. The oxygen in our atmosphere is diluted with nitrogen and carbon dioxide and ozone and water vapor and a lot of fun things we've added. If it weren't, lighting a match anywhere on Earth would be a very foolish decision.

Thanks for explaining the science. It was really, really bugging me. It still feels a bit off that they could safely ingite the atmosphere, but I guess I'll just go with "it's the Doctor, he knows what he's doing" and ignore the bad science alert going off in my head.

Yeah, my reaction to the trailer was, "Boy, that looks lame." I mean, come on! All that trouble to show her physical prowess just makes me think of the Power Rangers. It actually made me laugh. Don't muck up this season with a stupid storyline! I sincerly hope that the writing is better than it looks.

I hope the cheesiest part of it was in the trailer and that they are actually going to deal with this in a thoughtful and smart way.

Hi! First off, just wanted to say big fan of your writing. You help keep me sane waiting between episodes and feeding my addiction. Secondly, regarding atmosphere ignition. I think the device was set specifically to ignite the clone feed gas. The oxygen in the atmosphere kept the fire burning, but where there was no more fuel/clone feed it extinguished. The fact that he reprogrammed the device to burn the atmosphere inside the Sontaran ship makes me think it can be set to burn the gas of your choice.

Thank you. I'm glad you like my stories and popped by to say so. I think I missed the bit where he was reprogramming the device. I'll have to rewatch the episode.

Oh I so totally cringed at him burning the gas away. As a matter of fact I was cowering under the covers, anticipating the badness of such an action, and then when it didn't follow proper scientific principles I started cringing. And groaning. And reminding myself that it's just a tv show. . .

I'm not necessarily looking forward to next week's episode. So much potential for Badness. That being said, I did notice that they kept focusing on the hand in a jar (as opposed to "I've got a jar of dirt!") and am hopeful that they're giving us the answer before showing us the episode.

Me, too. I really am dreading it, so I hope they surprise me.

First of all, I think I am with you in everything you've said about this storyline. As much as I'd like this daughter to be a product of the Doctor/Rose I also don't believe I'd want to see it happen on the show itself.

Anyway, I think the Master is responsible, it's something he set in place last season before he was killed and it's only just come to fruition. He had that hand for a long time, and then he had the Doctor for a long time so access to DNA would be easy.

Oh I wish they'd go this route to explain who this so called daughter of the Doctor is. I could actually imagine the Master doing something like this as just another way to get at the Doctor.

I really hope this storyline isn't going to be the lame duck the trailer makes it look like.

Yeah. And is it just me or does this daughter look like Lucy Saxon?

Okay. I'm a science major. When I saw him burn up the atmosphere, my eye started twitching and my mouth was opening and closing and making as if to form speech but no words would come out. I kept chanting in my head: *I will not make comments about Doctor Who science. I will not make comments about Doctor Who science. I will not expect Doctor Who science to be remotely reasonable. I will let it go and move on. I will LET IT GO.*

You'd think I'd be inured after New Earth, but sometimes those wacky writers still catch me off guard.

As for the Doctor's daughter... (I have been completely unspoiled except for the title of the episode, the actress who's playing the role, the name of the character, and the trailer at the end of Poison Sky) I keep wondering, or maybe hoping that the reason they haven't tried to keep this plot line a secret is that they're using everyone's 'ZOMG! The Doctor has a daughter!! WTF?!' to maybe keep under wraps any REAL shockers this episode has. Like maybe there'll be more Unexpected!Rose, or we'll get to see the bigger picture of what the season arc is, or maybe we'll find out that the daughter IS the Doctor's and Rose's and she hasn't been born yet, or Rose really was lying at the end of Doomsday or...

*sigh* I know. Hope springs eternal in an OTP shipper's heart.

Still, as much as everyone else is dreading/is nervous about this episode, I'm still hoping that RTD will pull a shocker out of his hat and do something to make this really really cool, because I think it could be if done right.

But then I remember Tinkerbell!Doctor and RTD's conception of 'cool' and I despair.

Yeah, it's either going to be really, really good or horrendously bad. I don't think there's going to be a middle ground for this one. Loved your reaction to Doctor Who science!

I am hard-pressed to know how they are going to make this good when they've got scenes of her doing backflips through laser beams anywhere in the episode.

I'm thinking she was resonantly loomed too since the Doctor said he could tell in his mind if there way any other timelords or else there was yet another shield. They keep showing the hand so I think it'll She will be cloned from stolen hand which as you say could have something to do with the Master. I'm hoping she'll be from cloned DNA from Five. The actress looks a lot like her father so it's be silly not to take advance of it.

She does looks like she is (has) being trained as an uber weapon or soldier which will be drama for the Doctor. I'm really worried about this episode and this character. I have this fear (with no real proof) that something bad will happen to the girl and she will die thus making the Doctor emo and alone again. I'm also fearful she'll be annoying or Mary Sue or a bratty princess. I'm over ration and worrying but that trailer made it all worse. I hope whent he episode airs I will look a idiot having made a been wess over something that never came to pass.

I won't think so. Guess it's one of those "it's Doctor Who" you just gotta go with it. The writers better watch that because IMO there the times they can get away with it are few and far in between.

I hope they don't make the Doctor emo again. He's laughing and being silly and having fun again and I don't want him broken just yet, if they have to break him at all. I suppose if he breaks depends on how the end of the season plays out.

I really hope they don't either. They love doing it though, every time he finds happiness or a reason to stop traveling the person in question either leaves (Rose) or dies (the Master). Another timelord being alive would make the Doctor too happy thus I think she will die or leave some how. I just can't see a happy ending with this one consisting the track record on the show.:( Plus I'm a downer sometimes.

It's like this who ever gets close to the Doctor gets burned. Companions, companion's friends and family, people who where going to be companions but died before they had a chance. It's like what Martha said, the Doctor shines so bright but get to close and you can get burned, I think the writers (RTD) used that a little too often. They'd talked about it enough times. I'm very fearful about poor Donna how will she get burned? We already know what happened to Martha and Jack...

I wish we could just have happy!Doctor and Happy!heathly!companion at the end of each season.

Well, my method of the Doctor finally losing Donna as related in a story he tells Rose in OTVB had her getting happily married to the king of Sassifras Magna who bore more than a passing resemblance to Nine, but hey, doubt RTD will ever do that!
