I admire parents who do it. I don't think I could, though I've thought about it with my youngest (starts K. this year). I can imagine it would be very stressful, though, and a set of issues all its own compared to having kids in school...

It would be a lot easier if it was just one kid doing it, I think. I'm just stressing at the end of the year stuff. I cannot wait for July.

My daughter is 12 and my son is 9. It is my son's first year doing it. My daughter was homeschooled for half of 2nd grade and all of 3rd grade then went back to school until this year.

Homeschooling is hellish, for everyone involved. Firm fact. The key is to get a good network (either online or in your town) that can help with stuff. Apparently when my parents started out they lived in a place with a great organization that was really supportive, but later on we moved to my hometown, and there was noooothing. They still say that the organization made a huge difference in how easy it was to deal with me vs my sister...

I didn't know you were home schooled too. I don't think my mom would've described it as hellish exactly where I was concerned, because I think it was a good way to go for me. My brothers however were a different story. >_<

I firmly believe boys learn differently than girls. At least my boy learns differently than my girl.

Actually the schooling stuff itself is pretty good. It's the getting the kids to cooperate on really hot days when all they want to do is run outside and play in the sprinkler or set up the pool and go swimming. It's been in the high 80's to early 90's for most of this week so the stress of enforcing lessons was just really getting to me.

Sort of. We started this at the end of October so we're still playing a bit of catch up for the school year. My son will be done by the end of June. My daughter who is a lot less hands on will probably not be done until the end of July in two of her subjects.

I know I'm late in commenting on this, but I remember all too well what it's like to be forced to stay inside and do schoolwork when all you really want to do is go outside and play with your friends (although I grew up in Nevada, so at this point in the year we were generally trying to stay inside, as it was too hot to be outside). However, even though it frustrates you and your children at times, ultimately, you're going to be happy you stuck with it and they're going to be grateful you cared enough about their education to have done it. I'm so happy I was homeschooled and I plan on doing it for my own children someday (granted, when I think about the battles my parents had trying to teach me math, I shudder, but it was worth it).

Keep at it, and maybe (in the future) on a really nice day when nothing productive is being done anyway, feel free to call a day off. Most homeschoolers are so far above their age group in terms of grade level that it doesn't hurt, and if they're so focused on getting stuff done so they can go play they're not actually learning anything, it's not worth the battle.
