We've had three power failures in 48 hours.  Can I just say that Nor'easters are my least favorite form of weather?  The wind just rips right through you.  It got down to 10 degrees F (-12.2 celsius) last night.  The high yesterday was 19 degrees F (-7.2 celsius).  All I can say is thank heaven the pipes didn't freeze and I'm so glad we have a woodstove as backup to our propane furnace (which has an electric pilot light).  We've had snow for four days now.  Not enough to do anything with, just enough to annoy.  After the first day it was too cold for the kids to play in it.

Even when the power was on, half the time we had no internet or phone line.  Needless to say very little writing actually got done. *pouts*  I'm hoping it's all over now, but I doubt it.  There is still a lot of wind this morning and it is still bitterly cold at 22 degrees.  If we lose power again today I'm going to leave the faucets running a bit and pack up the kids and head to my mother's.  I'm tired of making toast in a pan on top of the woodstove and warming up soup the same way.

Eeek that is cold! Last week it dropped to -8 here but at the moment it is roughly about +2 in the day and dropping 3 or 4 below at night. Still bloody cold though when you live in an old house like we do. At least this year we have the new double glazing and heating so we've been pretty toasty so far, and my gas bill has dropped - yey!

You need a propane burner for cooking on. I have one because I used to go camping. Its nothing major, just 2 burners and a very slow grill but it is great for power cuts as my cooker is dual fuel and without electricity the oven and grill are useless.

Yeah. This is actually the first day it hasn't snowed in like a week and it actually started to melt today. I am so glad. I really don't actually want a white Christmas because I have to drive.

Next summer we are going to buy a gas barbecue grill and keep it on the porch. Then I can use it in winter as well when the power goes out.

Oh that sucks. Especially coming and going like that so you're never sure. My folks just spent 3 days without power at all. I tried to convince them to come out here but Dad decided to sleep in front of the fireplace instead. Stubborn old man. The worst I've had lately is a week without internet because Comcast needed 4 days to get a technician to the house. GRR. I became quite the fixture at the local coffee shop.

Yep. I think parents can be more stubborn than children sometimes! But at least he had a fireplace to sleep in front of.

Oh my stars, that's cold! Brrrrr! It dipped into the 40s last night and you would've thought we'd been dropped off into the arctic, lol! We are so spoiled to never getting cold enough to snow around here. (We'd love it for the novelty but then 75% of the population would probably die because we'd have no idea how to drive in snow and ice... O_O ;) )

Anyway, I certainly hope you either get to head off to warmer pastures (with actual working heat and power!) or those Nor'easters move on out, posthaste! *fingers crossed* Power failures and lack of Internet just suck like... you guessed it...

Yep. We get snow and ice all the time in the winter, and I'd still say 75% of the population doesn't know how to drive in it here!

We had raging winds last night, too! I had to put cotton in ears to have any hope of actually getting any sleep. I hope the power (and internet) continues to cooperate for you!

Least our wind wasn't noisy wind. That is even worse!

Oh, I do hope things get better. Although, now I know there's a perfectly logical(if sucky) reason I haven't been able to find you to chat in the last couple of days.

Thanks. Yeah, it's always a pain when it interferes with the important things like that. *laughs*

Man, I don't think I could live in the mountains. Michigan is bad enough as it is, and I was so happy to be in the Willamette Valley last winter!

*sends some hot air your way* XD

Yep. I wish more and more that I hadn't given in when DH wanted to move out here. I'd much rather be in town. It would have meant waiting another year before buying a house because things were more expensive in town, but it would have been worth it.

I hear you. We're still without power here (generator on for some of our house, and strangely we got cable/internet back on Saturday night), and they're saying 2 WEEKS for us to get our electricity back.

No woodstove here, but at least we have heat in one room of the house with the generator going off the propane tank. Same temps here, too -- I hate Nor'easters. I can't wait for this winter to be over.

(I also can't wait till I can take a hot bath! My creaky bones are complaining about the cold!)

I'd send heat your way, but I can send photos of warm cats when I get my camera out again!

That's awful. Two weeks is far too long in the middle of winter.
