Again with the Lack of Power
Dec. 15th, 2008 12:34 pmWe've had three power failures in 48 hours. Can I just say that Nor'easters are my least favorite form of weather? The wind just rips right through you. It got down to 10 degrees F (-12.2 celsius) last night. The high yesterday was 19 degrees F (-7.2 celsius). All I can say is thank heaven the pipes didn't freeze and I'm so glad we have a woodstove as backup to our propane furnace (which has an electric pilot light). We've had snow for four days now. Not enough to do anything with, just enough to annoy. After the first day it was too cold for the kids to play in it.
Even when the power was on, half the time we had no internet or phone line. Needless to say very little writing actually got done. *pouts* I'm hoping it's all over now, but I doubt it. There is still a lot of wind this morning and it is still bitterly cold at 22 degrees. If we lose power again today I'm going to leave the faucets running a bit and pack up the kids and head to my mother's. I'm tired of making toast in a pan on top of the woodstove and warming up soup the same way.

Date: 2008-12-15 09:24 pm (UTC)You need a propane burner for cooking on. I have one because I used to go camping. Its nothing major, just 2 burners and a very slow grill but it is great for power cuts as my cooker is dual fuel and without electricity the oven and grill are useless.

Date: 2008-12-15 09:55 pm (UTC)Anyway, I certainly hope you either get to head off to warmer pastures (with actual working heat and power!) or those Nor'easters move on out, posthaste! *fingers crossed* Power failures and lack of Internet just suck like... you guessed it...
...a fleet of Hoovers! ;) *warm hugs* ♥!

Date: 2008-12-16 06:47 am (UTC)No woodstove here, but at least we have heat in one room of the house with the generator going off the propane tank. Same temps here, too -- I hate Nor'easters. I can't wait for this winter to be over.
(I also can't wait till I can take a hot bath! My creaky bones are complaining about the cold!)
I'd send heat your way, but I can send photos of warm cats when I get my camera out again!

Date: 2008-12-20 04:50 am (UTC)Next summer we are going to buy a gas barbecue grill and keep it on the porch. Then I can use it in winter as well when the power goes out.
