and then they become total Glee-style mashups? Yeah, me, too. Right now I have Barrett Strong's Money (That's What I Want) crossing with Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. And it goes surprisingly well.
( Yes, this is how my mind works )Am I wrong? Or do these only work well together inside my head?

So Remember that Kid...
Mar. 24th, 2012 01:53 pm...who played an instrument made out of common plastic piping of different heights that he struck with mallets? It was pretty amazing music for such a strange instrument. Anyway, he's gone commercial.
I don't even like the product he's advertising, I kind of feel like the first ingredient in potato chips ought to be potatoes, I'm old fashioned like that, but it's still a very clever ad.

Old Music and New Music
Mar. 17th, 2012 02:14 pmAgain, sometimes the old music is the best music. And this really falls into the category of old music. Dvorak's New World Symphony #9 is probably my absolute favorite piece of classical music. The almost violent rush at the beginning, the subtle beauty in the middle, the melancholy of the French Horns as they come in at 10:18, and then the stirring race to the end. Maybe this song is my favorite because it's the first full orchestral piece I played as a freshman in high school. We had 200 strings and 20 brass and woodwinds, and 3 percussion players. You know how they say that music is power? Playing this piece like that really brought home to me how much power there is in music.
I particularly like this orchestra and not just because the conductor has the best hair ever! The way it moves is almost hypnotizing. It's like...sentient hair or something.
And also, I really like this girl. She has this throaty, well-used quality to her voice that amazes me in one so young. It's like you expect her to be singing in the back of some smokey tavern on some backroad somewhere, instead of being a young goth chick with interesting fashion choices that ultimately work very well for her. Sorry about the ad at the start, I couldn't find a good copy without it. It really reminds me of

Classical Music with Shining Eyes
Aug. 15th, 2011 01:28 amPutting this here mostly so that I will be able to find it again. It's an interesting take on Classical Music and wow, do I wish I'd had this guy as an instructor because he's funny and charming and most of all just downright good at it. He knows how to move your emotions all over the place. And I love the shining eyes bit. It's so true.
