30 Day Love Meme
Jan. 24th, 2011 04:26 pmDay 13: Your Favorite Television Pairing
Well, this one is a big DUH to anyone who knows me, but it's the Doctor and Rose from Doctor Who.

I pretty much ship it indiscriminately. Starting with Christopher Eccleston's Nine, I adored the relationship right from the start, how she called him on his crap, and how he said her name like the entire world revolved around her. Every time Rose chipped away at one of his walls with her larger than life smile or her compassion and he'd give her that look, you know the one I'm talking about, the one of total adoration, I'd squee like a little girl. It didn't matter to me that he looked too "old" for her or that he wasn't your typical pretty boy. They looked right together, they fit, and their chemistry was off the charts. The underlying tension, the will they ever take it a step further, and finally that speech about how he was coming to get her and save her from the Dalek fleet was one of the biggest declarations of love I've ever seen. Not to mention the kiss and his giving up his life for her. It was one of the sweetest and heartbreaking things I've ever seen on television.
When, of course, he became Ten in the regeneration I wasn't sure what to think. Mostly it was, "Who's that guy with the porcupine hair and where have I seen him before?" (Answer: as Barty Crouch, Jr, *shudders at the creepiness*) But he took the role so seemlessly and his chemistry with Billie Piper was, although different, just as good.
Their relationship became lighter and more fun and sillier, but he still loved her and in most episodes that was very clear. And she still loved him. When they were torn apart it killed me and when they were finally reunited...those smiles when they first saw each other were magical. I just regret that they didn't get a hug and kiss at that moment. (Daleks, they're good for nothing!)
Even with Ten2, who we get so little screen time with, that kiss made it clear that the magic and the chemistry were still alive and well. I finally got the kiss I'd been craving since Nine and Rose's. In that moment it was unreserved, wild, and passionate and beautiful. Even with the bittersweetness of Ten leaving, I knew that Rose and Ten2 would one day be happy, because how could any version of the Doctor and Rose who were together not be happy? They just...always were. And I think they always will be. I like to think of them like this (manip by seduff):

They deserve this happily ever after.
