amberfocus: (Rose Ten2 Meant to Be)
[personal profile] amberfocus
Title:  Gamble
Author:  amberfocus
Characters/Pairings:  Ten2/Rose
Genre:  Romance
Spoilers:  That scene in Journey's End
Summary:  He takes the risk and wins the girl.
A/N:  Had a touch of writer's, well, not block, but irritation with Zeppelins.  Donna and Lumin are being difficult.  Thought I'd try a bit of something else to get my creative juices going, so you get this little piece of Ten2 and Rose.

                                                                              Gamble

It's only a moment, a breath, a heartbeat.  Her eyes sear him with an intensity that lays him completely bare before her, as if she can read his mind in a gaze so deep it defies gravity and lifts him out of the darkness.  She is his savior, his life, his love and he cannot, will not, allow her to be devastated.  It's crazy, a gamble, a move of desperation, but he does it anyway.  He takes her elbow and then bends down, whispers into her ear words she has been waiting for too long to hear.  "I love you."

I'm not sure whether to sigh or sob, but that's beautiful just the same. :)

Thank you. That was pretty much my reaction to that whole part of JE, myself. I write these things so I can live with that ending.

I count myself blessed that my first, completely genuine and unbiased opinion of the end of JE was happiness. Of course I grieve with the original Ten, but I was so absolutely surprised to get a romantic ending, that I loved it and still do.

But of course I cried anyway, buckets. :)

I loved that two of them got a happy ending, sort of. That part was beautiful to me, but I cried for Ten, and of course, for Donna. I do truly believe that the human Ten and Rose were meant to be, but my heart will never stop aching for the man left alone. And I wish they'd had Rose turn back into human Ten's arms at the end and look at least a bit happy. I have to believe that not too soon after she did.

Do you know what? That was exactly my reaction to JE, too.

That's so sweet! I love it. It might as well have been 9/Rose smut for how much I love this. 8-0

Aw, thank you. It's been a long time since I've written a non-smutty drabble, I kinda thought I might have forgotten how.

That was a close call there! You almost made me like how they ended Journey's End! :)

A beautiful piece, the pacing is just right. Despite my reservations for canon!Journey's End fic, this was fantastic.

Well, I'm not sure anyone will ever truly like how JE ended, but I write these things to make it better and easier to deal with. Thank you very much.

The language of this little piece is exquisite. Your description of this scene should have been sub-titled when it aired *nods*

Thank you very much. I like the emotional wallop a drabble can punch.

I love that you can make such a short piece be so meaningful. I feel like I've just read one thousand words of awesomeness, even though it was only a few sentences. Gah, I love your writing. =]

That's the lovely art of drabble writing. Every word has to be weighed for it's meaning and intensity because you don't have a single one to waste. It's a wonderful challenge, especially when my muse is being stubborn. I tell myself, I can write 100 words. And I always can.

Anyway, thank you. You're lovely.
