What do you guys use for minor burns? I'm looking for an ointment or gel that you'd put on before covering with a bandage. Either a brand name or the generic name of the stuff would do. Is pure aloe (like right out of the plant) a commonly used treatment method? Thanks.

Varies really. Common antiseptic creams such as Savlon, TCP cream then add a dressing such as Melolin, sure you have similar in the US. Elastoplast do a burn spray. Its very cold and sort of freezes the burn without freezing the skin. Its also antiseptic.

Edit: typical store to buy these supplies would be Boots.

You can get Aloe from places such as Holland and Barret's (alternative health store). I've got some Aloe gel from there which is fab for sunburn and all sorts of itchy rashes.

I have an aloe plant on my windowsill in the kitchen which I use for burns. Loads of my friends do too. But I'd agree that Savlon or TCP would be the most common brands of over the counter stuff.

Germaline or sudo cream are also common brands. Germaline has a very distinctive smell and although the latter is more often found with the babyproducts it's an all round cure all (scrapes, rashes, minor burns, nappy rash) and has always been kept in my house.

Savlon's the only one of these I've heard of. Pure aloe is known, but uncommon if you know what I mean.

Yes, Savlon or Germaline probably, both bought from Boots or Superdrug.
