I just read that Anne McCaffrey died. Oh, my heart. She's been a part of my life since I was 12 years old. I read and reread my Pern books until they fell apart. Ditto The Tower and the Hive and The Crystal Singer books and the Dinosaur Planet ones. For many years she was my favorite author and is still my second favorite. One of her co-written pieces led me to my current favorite author. I know it's silly, but I feel like I lost someone I knew. She was an amazing writer and she will be missed.

I saw the news on the blog of another favourite writer of mine and can't quite believe it. I knew she hadn't been in good health for some time and all, but still just so sad.

I saw the same thing a few hours ago and am heart-broken. I currently re-reading the Talents series right now and her books are the main things I've been reading recently. Her son, Todd's website mentioned a few months ago that she wouldn't be attending DragonCon in Atlanta due to heart problems so I've been afraid this would happen soon.

I'm going to miss her too.

She was one of my all time favorite authors. She brought such life and optimism and charm to all the worlds she created. My childhood wouldn't have been the same without her, she was one of those shining lights that makes the whole world brighter.

She'll be missed.

I've never read anything by her, but your post and these comments make me want to go find something of hers and read it.

How sad. I met her twice when she came to Australia back in the 80s; to a con in Sydney and lecturing in Perth some years later. In fact, I traveled to Sydney primarily to meet her! She was a really lovely lady; one of those incredibly active, white haired elderly ladies who have inexhaustible energy. Mind you, at that time she would only have been in her sixties so I suppose my memory of 'elderly' derives from my being in my twenties at the time. LOL. One of the people there gave her a baked plastic mini dragon that was sized so you could wear it on your shoulder and she was so touched she was almost in tears. She spoke very well at sessions and was always very good at giving value to the fans. I have all her Pern books signed and have read them many times. In fact, my moniker of draconin (the essential basis of dragon's blood) was partly inspired by my love of the Pern series. She'll be greatly missed.

This is such sad news, and I can't believe it wasn't on our news. I feel like I lost someone I knew. No, it's not silly. I remember when Heinlein died, and the reverberations through the conventions for quite some time. Of course we knew her, in the best way possible.

I know the feeling, unfortunately this was the first I saw the news. I remember reading every scrap of her work I could lay my hands on for YEARS. She will be much missed but at least her work will live on to be enjoyed for many many magical years to come as we share her writing with those we love.
