You can learn a lot about someone by the music they listen to. Hit shuffle on your iPod or mp3 player and write down the first 20 songs. No cheating or skipping songs that are shameful. That is the fun! And frankly, a little scary...

01. If I Die Young--The Band Perry
02. Flying Machine--Everly
03. Need You Now--Lady Antebellum
04. The Hand Song--Nickel Creek
05. Everytime--Britney Spears (Shut Up)
06. Don't Take the Girl--Tim McGraw
07. Breathe Me--Sia
08. Hurt--Johnny Cash version
09. It Doesn't Matter--Alison Krauss & Union Station
10. Permanent--David Cook
11. Dangerous--Katherine McPhee
12. Almost Lover--A Fine Frenzy
13. Carjack My Heart--by Dance Movie
14. Bad Romance--30 Seconds to Mars version
15. Let's Dance--Vanessa Hudgens (I said shut up)
16. Rumors--Lindsay Lohan (Is this thing going to come up with every embarrassing pop tart song I have on here?
17. Stranger--Hilary Duff (Apparently, yes)
18. Glass Spider--David Bowie
19. What Doesn't Kill You--Kelly Clarkson
20. Uninvited--Alanis Morrisette

Geesh, I do have many more upbeat songs on the thing.

well you might have a few embarrassing pop tart songs, but I certainly ended up with a lot of 80's soft rock on mine, and some other really shameful stuff, lol

*laughs* It did not come up with any of my many Air Supply or Styx songs or any of my Swedish technopop. Although, maybe that would have been better. I liked your list, but I grew up in the 80's.

There could have been some Air Supply on mine too, but somehow it skipped those, although having Garth Brooks pop up in the middle caught me by surprise, as I'd forgotten how much of his stuff I had on there.

We're not too far apart age wise I don't think, so I guess we will have certain music in common

Awesome list, to be honest. I love Don't Take the Girl. It's so beautiful and sad.

Out of curiosity, have any of these songs inspired to write a fic or inspired you while you're writing?

Well, you've got some artists I really like and can respect, like Alison Krauss, A Fine Frenzy, Bowie, etc.

But then you've also got Hilary Duff. So there you go. XD

Oh, I love Don't Take the Girl so much. It makes me cry every single time.

I don't usually play music when I'm writing, but I play it before I am going to write to move my mind over into that creative place.

Breath Me by Sia I played on a loop while I was thinking about the death scene and it's aftermath in A Sky Without Zeppelins and how devastated Donna was. It got me into the mindset of her heartache and pain.

And I play Hurt by Johnny Cash when I am getting ready to work on a new fic for the Moments in Darkness series.

Carjack My Heart by Dance Movie was one of the inspirations for We Are Relentless.

Flying Machine (along with another song by Everly, The Girl in the Moon) are ones I play to get in the mood for Post-Doomsday/Post-Journey's End fics. Actually I played both for Unexpected Outcome.

Interesting question!

*laughs* Well, I do admit that Hilary is there because of my daughter who used to be a big fan and I just happened to like that song so didn't delete it with the rest when she lost interest. Can't say that about the other pop tarts, though.

Hurt by Johnny Cash is a favorite of mine.

I play music when I'm writing about 95% of the time. I know that music was crucial to writing my fic for the Star Trek Big Bang (it's lovingly dubbed "The Kirk" in my playlists) and there have been some songs that have really helped pull me through a fic.

Interesting question!

I'm always curious to see how different writers are affected by music.
