What do you call the place you take your car to get it fixed?  Here it's either taking it to the mechanic's or to the garage.  Do you have a different word for it or is it the same?

I think they pronounce it with the accent on the first syllable, like gair-ahj, rather than the American guh-rodge. (I've heard it said that way on a couple of British shows.)

They do. And even being accustomed to various British accents and not thinking anything of them, GARage always sounds hoity toity to my American ears. Like, "Alfred, my good man, pull the Lexus 'round from the GARage." I can't imagine that's just me...

I've heard the pronunciation mentioned above, but more from my northern friends. In London at least, garage rhymes with carriage.
