Summary:  It's drabbles.  Pretty much impossible to summarize.
A/N:  Back in June I asked for one word drabble prompts.  I managed to get the Ten ones done, but the Nine ones were put on hold.  Bet you thought you'd never see them.  Each drabble is precisely 100 words.

For a moment, Rose wasn’t even sure she should try to approach the Doctor. He sat overlooking the smoking ruins of the once beautiful city. He’d drawn in on himself, looking smaller than she’d ever seen him. All of his armor had been stripped away. He was raw and open. Leaving him there alone was too much for her heart. She stepped towards him, her foot snapping a blackened stick. His head snapped around, a snarl on his face until he saw her.

“Oh, Rose,” he said.

She didn’t tell him it would be okay. She just held him tight.

The echo of birdsong was loud and lusty as it filled the canyon.

“It’s the middle of the night. They ever gonna shut up?” Rose asked turning over in her sleeping bag and giving the Doctor the stink eye.

“Dunno,” said the Doctor. “But what did you expect when you asked for a bird planet?”

“I think I asked for bird people,” Rose corrected.

“Close enough.”

“Really, really not.” She was silent for a moment. “I can’t sleep.”

“Well, then.” Rose heard the zipper on her sleeping bag being pulled down. “It just so happens, I have a backup plan.”

[livejournal.com profile] fishface44 wanted Nine/Rose and the prompt was accordian.

The Doctor looked her up and down. “It’s not that bad.”

“You’re not the one that looks like a bloody accordion! Seriously, the fashion here is ridiculous. Who wears this to a wedding?” She plucked at the horribly pleated skirt.

“Says the woman who comes from a country where the princesses wear sculptures on their heads.”

Rose waved that away. “I won’t wear it.”

“You’ll dishonor the princess if you don’t.”

Rose looked back in the mirror. “Fine,” she said. “I’ll wear it on one condition.”

“What?”

“You wear the tights they gave you.”

“Well, maybe we could sneak out.”

[livejournal.com profile] amberwind wanted Nine/Rose and the prompt was wildcat.

“Keep perfectly still,” the Doctor ordered. There was something in his tone that brooked no argument.

Slowly he pointed down the river. A large gray cat with darker spots emerged from the forest. She took a few hesitant steps forward then made a soft mewling sound. A tangle of cubs burst from the trees and scampered exuberantly down to the water.

“Beautiful.”

“Dangerous.”

They drank while their mother stood guard. Warily she took a few sips herself before giving a hard stare in their direction. The wildcat’s yowl made them shiver. Rose’s hand slipped into his. She felt safer already.

[livejournal.com profile] capemaynuts wanted Nine/Rose and kindergarten.

“Not fair,” protested Rose. “Totally not fair!”

“My ship, my rules!” the Doctor growled back.

“Honestly!” said Jackie Tyler throwing up her hands. “Sometimes the two of you behave like you’re in kindergarten!”

“Do not,” said the Doctor sullenly.

“Do too,” said Rose contrarily.

“Why don’t you just pull her pigtails and be done with it? Or, I don’t know…”

“Go shag already?” suggested Jack.

Fire lit Rose’s face as she blushed mightily. Even the Doctor’s ears turned pink. They looked sideways at each other.

“They’re not like that,” said Jackie.

“Are too,” said the Doctor.

“Are too,” Rose agreed.

[livejournal.com profile] krazykat_neko  wanted Nine/Rose and the prompt was devotion.

The Doctor lifted the sopping rag from the bowl of cold water and rang it out before wiping it across Rose’s burning forehead and around her face and neck, then down her arms. Her fever was so high he hadn’t left her side in the last twelve hours. The native women had brought him food and drink but it had remained untouched as he searched his companion’s face and held tightly to her hand. He’d eat when she was better. It took almost two days but finally her eyes fluttered open.

“Doctor?

“I’m here. I’ll always be here.”

She smiled.

[livejournal.com profile] develish1 wanted Nine/Rose and the prompt was lake.

“I think I’m about to melt,” said Rose.

“It’s not much further.”

“That’s what you said an hour ago.”

“Well, my orientation was a bit off,” he said.

“Isn’t it always?” she asked.

“Oi!” he said defensively. Even he couldn’t muster much outrage in this heat.

The lake suddenly came into sight, its turquoise water stretching wide before them.

Rose stripped down to her bra and knickers while he stood there staring. She plunged in. A moment later her bra hit him in the face.

“You coming?” she asked tongue between her teeth.

No, but hopefully he would be soon.
