Does the U.K. have a space agency or program like we have NASA?  If so, what is it called?

Also, what was the name of the UK in Pete's World?  I'm thinking it was the Republic of Great Britain, but I can't remember and I can't find what my daughter did with series 2.

Thanks. I just realized though, since I need it to be in Pete's World, the UK Space Agency wouldn't be what it would be called anyway, because it's not the UK there. Oh, well. Thanks anyway!

According to the Rise of the Cybermen transcript it's simply Great Britain. I believe fandom dubbed it "the Republic of" because there's a President and not a Monarchy/Prime Minister.

There was a random comment in Doomsday about the people's republic taking control of Torchwood, which is the reason why I call it the People's Republic of GB...

According to TARDIS Index File, after the defeat of the Cybermen, it became the People's Republic of (Great) Britain. Jake mentioned it briefly in either AOG or DD.

It does, doesn't it? You know, with that in mind, why aren't there more fics where Pete's World Britain is oppressive? I think someone brilliant (hint hint, author of this particular LJ) could really run with this idea: Torchwood as an agency for good trying to work within a corrupt, oppressive government.

I know I have read one or two over on TS where the author's vision of the PRB is pretty bleak.
