Quick Britpick and General Whining

Okay, U.K. people, do you call bowling something other than bowling?  I'm thinking...ten pins?  Or is it just bowling?

Also in general fail on the part of the internet today, only two people have managed to amuse me (one being mrv3000 with this entry:  http://mrv3000.livejournal.com/1078773.html) and I am now BORED.

He's missed 3 days of school and it's not a lot of fun.  I think it's going to be a loooooooooooooong weekend.

Tosh is starting to become slightly more reasonable.  John and Rose are still making out in the corner.

Don't think so but I know its another name for the game although reading this:

That sounds more like the French sport of boulles, to me, a kind of lawn bowling with palm-sized balls. I'm wanting more of an indoor, thing with special shoes done on polished wood floors and you throw the ball down a lane to try to take down as many pins as you can at the end without it falling into the gutter first

I can just use the Americanism if I have to. It is an AU world and some things are different..

In Australia we just call it Ten Pin Bowling or say we're going bowling.

Ok, speaking as a Brit......If a friend calls and wants to meet up at a bowling alley for a game, we'd both refer to it simply as "bowling".

The term emraldeyedauter mentioned, skittles, is used solely to describe a shorter version of ten pin bowling that's generally played in the back gardens of public houses.

So there you have it :)

Yes, exactly what develish said. That said, I know of a bowling alley somewhere around the fens (the bottom right bit of England or the pig's backside - I was always told that the outline of the British Isles looked like a cowboy riding a pig... if you squint you can sort of see it I suppose) there is an alley where the pins are lowered on string. It's also the home of a mountain rescue place where there are no mountains. We have a very strange country.
