30 Day Love Meme--Days 26-29

Day 26:  A pairing that you hated and ended up loving?

Barney and Robin from HIMYM.  I really didn't like it when they paired them up at first, but after I realized Barney wasn't just in it for the one night stand, that it would be a real relationship, I totally got behind it.  I don't like they way the show ended things though, just letting it fall apart, and still have hopes that they'll get back together and do it properly this time.

Day 27:  A pairing that you loved but ended up hating?
Ted and Robin from HIMYM.  And I wouldn't say hate so much as found ridiculously co-dependent and unhealthy by the fifth or sixth boomerang bedcheck.

Day 28:  A pairing that you will never understand.

Sheldon and Penny from The Big Bang Theory.  I've already stated my feelings on this.  I just don't get it.  The two characters have made it extremely clear that they dislike each other.  They irritate each other constantly.  They only put up with each other for the sake of Leonard.  There's no romantic spark at all, no secret looks, nothing for me to build on.  How do other people do it?

Day 29:  What ship had the best proposal?

Lucas's second proposal to Sami on Days of Our Lives, from his heartfelt declaration of how he felt to the off-key but earnest singing of When a Man Loves a Woman, to all the sexy flashbacks, to Kate's disapproving glares, to Sami's tearful and joyful reaction.  I just loved it.

RE: Sheldon and Penny. We clearly see this differently. Yesterday you said you saw Leonard as a nice guy who cares about Penny. For me I've always seen a horndog who wants to bone a hot chick. And he actually pretty much said that not once, not twice, but THREE times last season. He doesn't respect her, he likes her sure, but as a friend, as a girlfriend, he doesn't actually like her, doesn't enjoy doing things with her, makes fun of her and thinks she's an idiot.

With Sheldon and Penny, while they do irritate each other, they also do like each other. Sheldon has made efforts with Penny to remain her friend that he has with no one else. Look at the "Spaghetti Catalyst" last season. When she and Leonard broke up, Sheldon disrupted his eating habits just so that he could spend time with her and maintain their friendship. He's read up on Cathy comics to find out how to make a female feel better. Yes, he's still rude and condescending, but Sheldon is that way with EVERYBODY. And he respects other things about Penny and has no problem telling her, even if she doesn't always see it as a compliment. He intends such comments as such.

As for Penny, she takes care of him when he's sick, knows that she can depend on him when she really needs help, cares when he's hurt. When his friends were mean to him after the Arctic, she comforted him. When they were robbed, it was she who made sure that Sheldon wasn't alone and she stayed up to help him feel better. She felt bad about him missing meeting Stan Lee and so made a deal with Stuart just so that she could get Lee's address and make it up to Sheldon.

There have been lots of instances where Sheldon and Penny both show their affection for one another. As for romantic sparks, no there aren't, it's all about the chemistry that many of us do find there between Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco -- chemistry many of us find severely lacking in Cuoco and Johnny Galecki. And all of those moments I mentioned above, plus countless more, are what we've built this ship upon. Mostly, they are possibility. To each their own, I guess, lol!

*laughs* Yeah, I'll probably never agree with you on this, but...if it wasn't for you and your shipping of Sheldon and Penny I never would have started watching the show, and the show is fantastic, so I'm perfectly happy to have different opinions on it. *grins* I do think Leonard'sfeelings run a lot deeper than that, but I can see why you don't. It's a terrific show and as long as they keep up the witty banter I'll be happy no matter what they do.

Oh wow, I was just about to comment saying almost exactly what you did. This is a perfect description of exactly what draws me to this pairing.

You are the first person I've seen not get angry and self righteous about this pairing and truly explain why you like it. I think if more Sheldon/Penny shippers were like you, maybe we wouldn't have such a bad reputation.

That means a lot hearing that considering I was basically ran out of the S/P fandom for being "too" into my shipping of the pairing, lol. I'm such a couple girl and fangirl my couples ridiculously, but I also try and approach things -- even pairings I like or don't -- with logic based on what I see happening on the show. So thank you very much. :)

Really?! That breaks my heart to hear that! What comms were you in? I've never had people be anything but nice to me, but then again I've only been in this fandom, much less the pairing, for a little over four months now.

To be honest, it was a pretty bad experience and I'd rather not revisit anything about it. Just know that I really do appreciate your words. They were a lovely balm to my battered fandom soul. :)

Do you have a bad reputation? I haven't gotten into that fandom at all, I just know that there is a huge Penny/Sheldon following.

She does have a very logical and more importantly rational reason for shipping her ship, which I totally appreciate (and maybe can see a tiny bit more with what she has pointed out, even my heart melts when Penny sings Soft Kitty to Sheldon). The thing I love about arabian is that we can have these totally opposite opinions on some things, but I completely adore reading her thoughts because they always make me think and even if she doesn't like my ship, she never tells me it's stupid or that I shouldn't ship it, just that she doesn't like it or get it.

I don't know if we really have a bad reputation but the few times I've ran into non-shippers I'm always met with "Oh....You're one of those.".

I'm glad you can both talk like that with one another. My best friend and I are the same way and I love her dearly for it. <3

Yup, we definitely have very different ships in some fandoms, but we respect that the other has those ships even if we don't quite get why, LOL! Hee!

I totally agree with you on everything (except the last one because I've never seen)!

I really want Barney and Robin to end up together because they just...fit. And lately they've been understanding and caring for one another. I have a theory about this {them ending up together}

I also hate Ted/Robin - they just don't work well together and I'm glad that it hasn't really been revisited.

Sheldon/Penny = I don't understand (I think they care about each other...but not like normal ppl lol). I think she belongs with Leonard.

Amen. Sheldon is a weird crossover between Spock and Data, I can't ship him with anybody. I don't ship Penny either, with Leonard but I just don't see Penny and Sheldon. Besides, Penny is turning into Sheldon's adoptive mother, singing him songs, and the fight with Leonard about Sheldon's custody by the end of season 3.



I have seen a few episodes of HIMYM but Barney, the sex obsessed Barney fell in love? For real? With Robin? Now, that's... I'm looking for words, here. But hey, I only saw episodes from season 1 and 2 so maybe the guy got better in later seasons?
