Day 09:  The most believable relationship--Castle and Alexis--Castle.

I know this is mostly a romantic type meme, but in the case of the most believable and loving relationship, I have to break the romance barrier and go with the most wonderful father/daughter relationship I've ever seen portrayed on TV.  And the one truest to my experience as a parent, and that is of course the relationship between Richard Castle and his daughter Alexis Castle.  I've never seen such a positive parent/child relationship on a show before.  These two play together, and laugh together, and sometimes fight but when they do they are genuinely upset about the fact that they are not getting along and do whatever they can to mend those fences as quickly as possible.  They tell silly jokes and make bad puns and have intelligent conversations.  They don't talk down to each other.  They respect each other.  Castle is portrayed as a competent father, one who always has his daughter's best interests at heart.  Alexis is an intelligent girl who stays out of trouble without being too good to be true.  Alexis can be wise beyond her years and at the same time be completely young and vulnerable (like a real teenager).  She needs her dad and he needs her and neither of them try to deny that.  They are clearly the most important thing in each other's worlds.

My favorite father/daughter relationship on tv! When I first saw Castle had daughter I dreaded what I thought was the inevitable bad relationship bratty daughter to be. But two seconds of screen time showed that not to be true. It's a huge part of what sold me on the show. Finally something new! Something done not only new and refreshing but done so beautifully by the writers and actors. The longer I watch the show the more I love their relationship.

I clap you choice for 'most believable relationship'! It doesn't always have to be romance. There are so many kinds of love. Parental, sisterly, brotherly, friendship. It's refreshing to read about more then just romance sometimes, though good romance can be so fun.

Yes yes yes. And another yes, just for good measure. These two have easily the best relationship on any television show that I've ever watched, for all the reasons you've stated here. It's not overly saccharine, but it's not the parent-vs-child constant struggle that's usually portrayed, either. Even though they're both great characters on their own, they're even better together. That's the way it should be.

THIS. I absolutely ADORE them. The writers really got this relationship right. Alexis reminds me a lot of the way I was in high school - not every kid has to be either perfect or a complete wreck. Castle obviously makes his share of mistakes, but he is a caring, devoted father. Heh. I love him going to Beckett about the various girly issues and how she delights in torturing him with stories of her own rebellious past. :D

Castle is one of my favorite shows, ever, and the father-daughter relationship between Castle and Alexis is one of the reasons why. It's so refreshing to see a relationship between a parent and child that ISN'T fubar on TV.

I'm actually doing a re-watch of S3 for Monday's episode and so many of the highlights of the show for me are about Castle and Alexis.

I really need to start watching this show, but there's already a list of others that seems about a mile long right now...
