Without question Isabella Toscano Black and John Black from Days of Our Lives.
Ah, the days of big hair and even bigger storylines! I loved this couple to death. Literally. When Isabella died in John's arms of pancreatic cancer, leaving their newborn baby Brady behind, it nearly broke me. I had never cried over a tv show before and her beautifully acted death tore me to shreds. Nothing has ever made me cry over a show or ship more until the Doctor and Rose during Doomsday.
I don't know what it was about John and Isabella. Maybe that it seemed like a genuine love story. Sometimes on soaps you really catch the actors acting. I never felt that way for one minute when my beloved Izzy-B was on the screen. And she had some hokey storylines with John (being arrested for a murder her sister committed, finding out her father was not her father and was trying to kill her when he found out her mother had cheated on him and she wasn't his, the Cruise of Deception, the whole John isn't really Roman Brady he's John Black, no he's Forest Alemain, no he's John Black thing, and Marlena coming back from the dead, but in the end these two pulled it off every single time and I never doubted their love for each other.
Maybe it was the absolute gentleness and sweetness of their love. They didn't argue like other couples on soaps. They did so in a respectful manner that always showed that underneath their disagreements was a true kind of commitment and compassion for the other person. Not to say they didn't have fire or passion, because they most certainly did. And chemistry for days (hee!). But there was never that love/hate thing so prevalent on soaps. It was a beautiful courtship despite all the drama surrounding it and they had my second favorite wedding of all time on TV and my favorite birth scene.
Isabella was the love of John's life and you will never convince me otherwise. Marlena who?

Date: 2010-12-24 07:10 am (UTC)Nah, J/K. Even though I am a J/M fan, I loved John with Isabella too. It was lovely and sweet and one wonders what would have happened if the show hadn't decided to kill her off. I do, however, love that they keep her memory alive in the show. Whether it's returns as a ghost or just mentions of her be it in passing or as a way to advance plot (Ex. the latest coffin storyline that just wrapped up). It's a lovely tribute to both the character and the actress invited to return when Isabella's spirit is needed.
