Just throwing a major tantrum because someone has taken and put up my .pdf story file of Wolf Moon on rapidshare Bosnia WITHOUT BLOODY ASKING ME FIRST.  And I know it was mine and not some other story of the same name because it had my user name on it.

You know what?  I am pretty easy going about things, I've allowed my stories to be translated into Russian, German, Spanish, and French and I didn't mind one bit because the people asked me first and gave all due credit.  It's not like I wouldn't have given permission, but...the lack of courtesy expressed here, just taking it and putting it out there from a source that was not approved by me really majorly pisses me off.  I know that when you put stuff on the internet you pretty much lose control over it, and this is not as bad as plaigerism or any such thing as that, and I am probably blowing it all out of proportion, but it still feels like I'm being stolen from AND I DON'T LIKE IT.

Whover you are, person from Bosnia, next time just bloody ask me.

/end rant

There.  I feel better now.  Back to writing Three Hour Tour.

Ten years ago, I was very involved in Wheel of Time fanfiction,.. had that happen to me a couple of times. One of my characters and her adventures would show up on another website and there wasn't a blasted thing I could do about it. Well, the first time I just posted on their OOC board with links showing where/when the character/story originated. The second time, I didn't even bother. You're right - once it's on the internet, it's pretty much in public domain... And since I was already writing in someone else's world, pushing the point seemed a little, well, pointless.

Your work is excellent. Consider that imitation (or out and out plagiarism) is the sincerest form of flattery, and then feel sorry for the poor fool who obviously completely lacks any imagination of their own.

Oh, that sucks. Is the whole website in Bosnian, or can you figure out how to ask for it to be taken down?

OH, man, that must be quite frustrating. I don't blame you for being upset. They should have at least asked you.

I had this with one of my fics and I threw the coyright rulebook at them and got it taken off. I can't recall what I said but as an Open University student we have to cite sources and this was the basis of my argument. I kept emailing and logging into the site to bombard the comments with my LJ account as source until it got removed. Bunch of toerags, don't blame you for being angry.

I can certainly understand how angry you are, I'm sure we'd all be the same, but sadly it's not likely you can do anything about it. Given the fact that almost 100% of the stuff posted at rapid share breaks copyright I doubt those running it will give a damn even if you do complain. Having said that though, lodging a complaint might at least make you feel better.

I so understand your feeling disrespected by there lack of consideration. I really get that and sympathize. My only suggestion is to try to focus on the fact that someone loved your stuff enough to want to share it with a wider audience. At least they had the decency to keep your author's credits. Huggggs

I've found that there are less and less people who have any consideration for other people's property, intellectual or otherwise. It's quite sad, actually...
