amberfocus: (Farscape--John Chriton and Aeryn Sun--Cl)

So one of the things that has always bugged me about this episode is Chriton's attraction to some random Sebacean girl the crew finds on a derelict space ship.  We've just spent four episodes with Aeryn and Chriton oozing out tons of unresolved sexual tension and he's gonna have his head turned by some little blonde science tech?  It just never rings true to me.  Not that they don't have chemistry because they do, but it still feels off.

Oh, my gosh, Aeryn's whole unit was demoted because she was contaminated by her contact with Chriton and they can only get their old standing back when she's executed?  I'd totally forgotten that.  Commander Crais is such a bastard, isn't he?  I mean, more so than at first glance.

D'Argo raging at the fishy looking fire spitting aliens being almost enough to convince them there's a full complement of Luxan's onboard Moya is awesome.  *pets D'Argo*  You rage, D'Argo.  Poor warrior unable to fire weapons from a ship that has no defensive capabilities.  Zhaan, calm as ever in a crisis.  Love the leopard print blue skin.  Just love it.

I do love Aeryn's anger after she catches Chriton and the tech girl kissing while they're more or less under attack and her admission that when she first met Chriton she found him interesting for "a moment."  *laughs*  Oh, you are so gone already, Aeryn Sun.  Don't even lie to yourself about this for a second.

Oh, my gosh, Aeryn to the rescue swinging down on a massive chain to save the day!  RTD, you are such a Farscape fan, aren't you?  This is so totally the Rose Tyler/Ninth Doctor scene from Rose.  Well, without the pit of Nestene Consciousness goo and the anti-plastic, but still.  And big, big, big gun.  Like the one Rose carries in season four, sort of.  Only bigger.  Interesting.

Zhann telling D'Argo he was magnificent despite her interference.  Did Zhann and D'Argo ever carry through on the UST?  I'm thinking no.  It would have been a wildly unbalanced relationship with her powers, though.  Still, it's a very delicious UST.  Although I think Zhann has that with everyone.  Even Rigel.

Aw, blondie doesn't want to go.  Sorry, hon, you're not in the opening credits.  It can never be.  Go on now.  Go away.  Stop it, Chriton, you can't really have those sorts of feelings for a girl you just met.  Not when Aeryn's just around the corner, stupid head.  Ooooh, ooooh, forehead kissing!  Nine/Rose.  Hah!  RTD, you really were a fanboy, weren't you?  Oh, Chriton, not a pretty kisser here, are you?

And back to Aeryn and Chriton looking out the big window at space floating by.  This is a good way to end every episode, isn't it?  Although big window with space floating by...End of the World and Nine/Rose again.  I'm starting to think RTD just cribbed from Farscape like crazy.  Not that he didn't put his own stamp on it, but...still.

Current pop culture references.  Well, not so current anymore, but at the time they were.  Something else we saw on Who along with the name dropping.

Oh, Aeryn, you break my heart, but at least you understand now that Chriton really gets what you are going through.  Maybe now you can let down some of these prickly barriers and let him in a bit more?  Yeah?  Good girl.

Hmm...I should find me a Farscape icon.

ETA:  Oooh, found a good one!

Yeah, I'm starting to think Whedon wasn't RTD's only influence in regards to how he wrote/produced Who. Especially with Nine/Rose's arc and the meta crisis.

Hmm, I always liked the Gilina storyline. I never thought it detracted from the John/Aeryn thing at all - in fact the way I see it, it adds to it. John has definitely been noticing Aeryn up to that point, but she's just so armored - plus the fact that she's an alien - he never thought he'd have the tiniest chance with her.

Then along comes Gilina, who's cute and scared and helpless, and Aeryn is interrogating her like she's some sort of criminal, so he shifts into protective mode. Add to that the fact that she's a scientist (not a warrior like Aeryn) and here's a girl to whom he can truly relate. Possibly the first person in the Uncharted Territories that he can say this about. I think it's entirely realistic that he'd develop a rapport with her.

But then Aeryn sees what's happening and she gets jealous, and John suddenly realizes that maybe he does have a chance with her after all. So the next time he sees Gilina, he's moved on and Gilina is left in the dust.

Interesting about the whole "swinging to the rescue on a chain" thing - I had forgotten that part. The metacrisis/two Johns thing had occurred to me already, though. Did RTD ever say if he'd watched Farscape at all?

That just made me laugh. XD You're amusing when you're doing fangirl monolog.

This is actually one of my favorite episodes and I've currently seen all but the very last. I love Aeryn's jealousy over the other girl. I think it kind of makes her reconsider John as a possible "boyfriend". D'argo vs those aliens has to be my favorite bit though :D
