I do not like ducks.  I am going to come down firmly on the side of not liking ducks.  Or at least one duck in particular, an ornery, clever, obnoxious duck named Tiny.  Last night my mom was late getting back from the fair with the kids (like I knew she would be) and so it fell to me to put the chickens and ducks into the coop last night.  Everyone else?  Walked right in.  Just had to get them going in the right direction.  Tiny?  I spent a half an hour trying to corner him or get him to go in and though he stayed close to me, because it was dark and he does not want to get eaten by a raccoon or coyote like Chip and three of the chickens did, he still wouldn't just walk in or let me catch him.  Dumb duck.  I told him he was on the menu to every wild thing out there if he didn't move his tail feathers, but no.  He wouldn't go in.  Finally they got home and Mom and T were able to corner him and put him in.  At least they brought me home a totally loaded funnel cake from the fair.  It went a long way towards making up for aggravation over that dumb duck.  It was...probably not a good idea that that was my dinner, but...oh, well.  Stress eating.

There were several eggs yesterday.  The chickens have been going strong for about three weeks now.  We haven't bought store bought eggs in that long, though we still have about a dozen we're using up in baked goods, because the fresh free range organic home raised eggs are too good to not eat on their own.  At least until we're getting a few more and run out of the store eggs.

Today I officially registered both kids at school.  It was weird.  I felt like I was jumping through a lot of hoops.  How many forms do they need me to fill out saying the same thing?  He's the same color and speaks the same language on all eleven forms, thank you.  That's not going to change between forms, even if he does tan extremely well with five minutes' exposure to the sun.

We got to wander around the high school a bit.  Just the first floor.  It's been completely remodeled since I went there.  It's nice, airy, light, and open.  I would have loved that.  We met my daughter's Japanese teacher (he's not Japanese, he teaches it) who I went to school with and had classes with and also went to the same church as during sophomore to senior years.  He was a good boy, always kind and well liked and funny, so I trust he's grown into a good man and teacher.  It helps ease my nerves knowing she'll have someone like him around.  And he remembered me which is kind of nice.  He was all, "You look really familiar."  We were alphabatized in class a lot.  My maiden name started with V and his last name with W, so I hope I looked familiar. *laughs*  I sat by him in enough classes.  But I have changed a lot in 22 years so I was a bit surprised.

I'm disappointed that the fifth grade orchestra program has been elimintated.  Last year was the last year for it.  It makes me sad.  T was really looking forward to playing my viola and doing orchestra as a way of making friends.  Maybe I'll get him lessons.  We'll see.

I'm working on Leap of Faith today.  Worked on it some last night.  Getting the smut-a-thon together took up more time than I expected, but now its pretty well functioning on its own.  Hopefully I'll get this chapter done soon.  I know I owe a zillion people comments right now.  I sort of suck at that at the moment.  Not going to stress on it, though.  I'm sure you'd rather have me writing fic than replying to comments anyway.  Though I will try to get to them soon.

I house sat for a friend of mine who has chickens and the only time I had difficulty getting them into the coop was when I had to leave during the middle of the day. (Usually unexpectedly. If I knew I was leaving, I left them in the pen instead of free wandering.) At night, they'd sort of put themselves to bed. I just had to go close the doors to the coop. I wonder why ducks don't do the same thing.

The forms for children going to school are ridiculous. I just got my daughters novella of paperwork. It's made slightly worse because everything has to be in English and Spanish now.

Don't stress over the comments or the stories. They are both a nice gift that shows up every so often. You have to get life down and fit the fictional life in between. I've got a full multi-chapter story hiding in my head. It just keeps getting revised between stop lights, pie making events with my 3 year old, work and exercise.

You are one of better one at getting the stories done. Which is amazing considering all you are doing.

Back to think about how the two of the middle chapters will work Good night

Ack! You just reminded me that I have to return the free lunch form that I MUST return even though I am not eligible or even want it.
My kids have been in the same school system since birth, yet we have to provide 4 proofs of residency each time one of them advances from one school to the next.
Hugs and glad you are back to writing.

The amount of forms you have to fill out for school is ridiculous, and even with all that information they still can't manage to do anything on time.

My daughter didn't get her final report card at the end of school because they couldn't get the grades done, we had to wait nearly three weeks for it come by mail. (What if you were one of the kids who didn't pass? Or had to attend summer school? How would you know?) And now, they are returning to school a week from next Tuesday...nothing from the school yet about what classroom she's supposed to report to.

I've got one even better. Open house is on Monday and my daughter's school is still under construction. I have no idea how we're supposed to get in, as the parking lots are closed and being re-tarred. School starts a week after that and they're still putting in walls and windows.

Awkward question: Will you ever have an opportunity to eat this "Tiny?"

I think funnel cake is a perfectly acceptable dinner. LOL. I would love that for dinner.

I'm so sorry to hear that the orchestra got cut. That's kind of sad.

*hugs you*

The school forms are what get me every new school year. Because it is the exact same info, six or seven times over so each and every person at school can file their own copy away and never look at it again.

You're a better person than I am re: Tiny. I would have left him for the raccoons after five minutes. Ducks and geese all have bad attitudes, in my experience.

First of all I want to appologise for being MIA for the last little while, school has taken up all of my time with assignments to write and practical placement to do... it's been a bit a juggling act. Thank the stars I don't have kids as well! Not that that's a bad thing, but I don't know how people with them can do it all. Horah to them!!!!

And yes, roast duck sounds wonderful *laughs*

Now to go and catch up on some of my favourite pieces of Whofic.
