Ducklings Have Arrived!

If there was one thing that could cheer me up about spending my fifteenth wedding anniversary with my husband in Alaska and me in Washington, it's the arrival of baby ducks! They are so cute and adorable and cuddly-looking with all that soft brown down. They'll need to stay under the incubator lights for the next three weeks. The lights make everything orange, but I was still able to get some relatively decent photos. The chicks should be hatching out tomorrow.

The one in front is the most active and has been labelled Sir Pecks-a-lot. The kids just call him Pecky for short. They won't be allowed to name the chickens, but since the ducks will be around for longer than their laying life for slug control in the garden they get names. We're waiting for personalities to emerge on the other ones, but so far the names up for discussion are Sleepy and Silly. Which is why we are waiting.

Okay, they're not as cute as Andrew's baby photos,
azriona, but these babies will sleep through the night every night!
