It happens so quickly that if Rose hadn’t been watching his face she never would have seen it. It is just a flash, just a blink and you’ll miss it sort of thing. It tells her in no uncertain terms that everything, every single thing she’s thought he might have been hinting for is real.  It gives her the courage to stop him, to grab hold of his leather jacket and not let him escape from the moment. She pulls him down, meets his firm lips with ones that are soft and yielding. He swallows his surprise…and kisses back.
