This is not the way we usually do things. We don’t stick around. We don’t watch the fallout. We don’t see the repercussions of our actions as they play out across the shape of an entire world. Today there is something that is different. Something that makes Rose raise her tearstained eyes to mine and beg me not to go. Something that makes us cling to each other and take things further than we ever have before. I kiss away her tears. I override every rule I’ve ever made, about me, about her, about getting involved.
