Chapter Fourteen: U.N.I.T.
We find U.N.I.T. headquarters with my vague recollections and the Doctor manages to bluff his way in by asking if the Brigadier was about and if he was, would he mind having a word with a Dr. John Smith. It only takes moments for a response, but the man who welcomes us when we are led into an inner office is not Lethbridge-Stewart whom I had met at Christmas time while the Doctor was busy being in a coma.
“As I live and breathe, Sergeant Benton?” the Doctor asks.
The man gives him a solemn smile and rises, holding his hand out to greet him. “It’s Brigadier General now. I see you’ve gone and changed again.”
“Several times over, Brigadier. RoseTyler, this is John Benton. We used to work together years ago.”
I shake his hand and he smiles at me. “Your assistants keep getting younger and prettier,” he says. “But I suppose that’s only fair since you have, too.”
“Oi!” says the Doctor. “The cheek of the man. And anyway, Rose isn’t my assistant,” he says reaching over and taking my hand. “She’s my…well, she’s my Rose.” And he blushes full on from the tips of his ears pretty much down to where his skin disappears into the confines of his suit.
“Blimey,” says Benton. “Things have changed.”
“Nice to meet you,” I say shaking his hand with my free one. Benton murmurs an agreement.
“Anyone still about that I knew before?” the Doctor wants to know.
“The Brigadier’s passed on. Harry, too.” Then his face brightens. “But Yates is still around. Or well, he was…he was out in the field. Still waiting to hear back from him.”
“Tell us what we can do to help.”
“Doctor, I can’t risk civilians out in that mess right now,” Benton says glancing at me. “She’s not much more than a child.”
“Rose Tyler is hardly a child. This woman took on the Dalek emperor and destroyed a Dalek fleet with the wave of one hand. Don’t let her looks deceive you,” the Doctor replies firmly. Benton looks at me with new-found respect and something that frightens me a little bit. Hope.
“Well, then,” he says looking me squarely in the eyes. “Can you do it again with the Cybermen?”

This used to be only one sentance. Then it sort of...grew.

"Yum! Thanks, Doctor! Lemme try again." Rose waves her hand again.
Ca-Chink. K-9 appears above their heads, pauses for a cartoonish moment, and falls on top of the Brigadier's desk, breaking it.
"Oops." giggles Rose.
"Master?"

And to think he thinks she doesn’t notice this stuff!

I don’t blame her; I’d be doing exactly the same thing.
