Chapter Thirty-two:  Mate

I step in front of the Doctor. “You will not harm my mate.”

“He does not concern me unless he interferes.”

I feel a feral grin come onto my face. My Doctor will always interfere. A light green mist begins to exude from the Sower in front of me, his presence expanding and encompassing my body. It strengthens around me, blocking the Doctor physically from me.

Chapter Thirty-six:  Telling

We arrive on Earth, materializing behind the Powell Estate. When we left my mum had informed me that she was letting Dr. Jones stay in my room so she could be closer to the recovery effort, otherwise we would have landed the TARDIS in my room.

I am suddenly nervous. Telling my parents that I’m pregnant is not particularly something I want to do. My mum likes the Doctor, though she had her issues in the beginning and my dad respects him. But no parents want to hear that some older guy has knocked up their baby girl. Especially when last Mum knew, the Doctor and I hadn’t even slept together.

Chapter Fifteen:  From Zero to Sixty

“So then we rappelled down the cliff face and--.”

“You did what?” Donna turned and gave the Doctor a stern glance. “You took Rose rappelling? In her condition?”

“It was all perfectly safe,” said Rose. “Donna, I’m not made of glass. I’m not going to break. There were safety harnesses and anti-gravity belts as back up in case something went wrong with the harnesses.”

Chapter Seventeen:  Progression

Harrington Conrad heard the scream coming from Rose Tyler’s room and smiled. So something could get to her after all. He hadn’t liked her calm reserve or his inability to shake her, though he had found himself admiring the woman, as much for her strength as for her beauty.

It was really too bad, he mused, that she’d have to die with the child. Taming that mix of fire and ice appealed to him. She would make a fine lady at his side. But not at the cost of her child. He knew instinctively that she would never forgive him for that. He shrugged. Silly fancy anyway. He was starting to indulge them a little too frequently lately. Look at the way he’d let that first Kranamari female live too long just because she was pretty.

A/N:  So my brain's been in the off position regarding Nine today and this particular little fic came out instead.  It's a companion to this one shot:  http://amberfocus.livejournal.com/903.html  that I wrote ages ago.  Ten/Rose, sort of.  Angst.  Yeah, sorry.

Just Missed

She’d spent so much time searching for him. So much time when she’d managed to cross the universal barrier for hours at a time. Always she was too late. Always he’d been and gone. Every single time she’d just missed him. It had almost broken her, but there had never been another choice for her. She always had to go on. She was Rose Tyler. That’s what she did.
