Fire on the Mountain

We've been watching the helicopters try to put out this: http://www.bellinghamherald.com/latestheadlines/story/893575.html for the past couple of hours. Pray for rain and for the wind not to shift. It's a few miles away (maybe five, if that) and we have a direct view of it from our front porch. It's been burning since yesterday and the volunteer firefighters couldn't put it out.
We also cancelled our trip to the science center, again, because my stomach still feels like crap and because Rose threw up. Just as well. If we have to evacuate I want to be here to grab the lock box with our important papers and the photo albums and my original engagement ring and wedding ring (it's made of gold but I'm allergic and haven't worn it for years).
They think swine flu is in our state now. I've never been more glad that my kids are homeschooled and for the most part out of the germ-infested places.

Date: 2009-05-01 08:54 pm (UTC)You're in Bellingham or Seattle? For some reason, I thought you were in Seattle? Washington is a truly lovely state. On my trip into Alaska, we detoured into Seattle for a couple days. Lovely. The Fish Market- wonderful. They throw the fish and catch them consistently! *amazed* On our way out of Alaska, we took the three day ferry ride to Bellingham port. Again, lovely. Although, it was a long three days on a boat for me.
Anyway, I seem to have rambled on.... I hope you get to feeling better.
