A Day Off and Avoiding Spoilers

I took a day off from writing today.  Slept for part of it, did some car hunting, though we're still pretty sure what vehicle we've settled on.  I am still pretty wiped out from this cold, even though I've definitely turned the corner.  I just wish it would go away altogether.  I hope to get back to my writing tomorrow.  It's a game day, though so who knows?

I am really looking forward to the start of Doctor Who.  I hope it gets uploaded pretty fast, I do not want to wait until the 18th when it starts on Sci-fi channel here.  Especially since it looks like they are starting with Voyage of the Damned which I saw the day after Christmas.  I don't see why they can't just air it here the next day after airing it in the U.K.  Seems silly to me.

I've been really careful about avoiding spoilers for the last ten days or so.  It hasn't been easy, but most people are very good about putting spoiler warnings on things.  The ones that have gotten me a couple of times are icon posts that didn't have them.  That's a bit frustrating.  I've got several ideas in my head over what is going on and I'm hoping that none of them are true.  I keep going back and forth between wanting to know and not wanting to know.

I knew about CE leaving DW before I even saw season 1, and that tempered things.  I'd much rather have been surprised.  I didn't know about Doomsday and I was so glad because it tore my heart out in a way it wouldn't have done if I'd known.  So I desperately do not want to know what is going to happen in the finale.  And yet at the same time the idea of waiting is also driving me a little spare.  I suppose that's fairly normal at this point. 

I am really looking forward to seeing Donna, though.  I've had so much fun writing her character in the Time Eternal series and I hope she remains similar to how I envisioned her being from just our brief taste in The Runaway Bride.  In other words, don't screw her up RTD!  *laughs*

The next Vatta's War book came in the mail today and I am looking forward to reading it.  Elizabeth Moon is a fabulous author.  She writes mostly space military sci-fi with a strong, intelligent female lead and it is wonderful action/adventure and clever plots and I just love it.  Kylara Vatta is a wonderful character.  Moon has actually superseded Anne McCaffrey as my favorite female author and may just one day knock Greg Bear off his throne of my favorite all time author.

I'm really looking forward to the start of Doctor Who too. I'm going to try to stay away from LJ till I've seen the new episode. Gotta find a place that is *cough* helpful *cough* to overseas fans who can't wait. I don't even know when Canada will air DW, series three was aired in the summer but the CBC likes to air sports before anything else so it could be late summer. Too long for me. So till I see the said episode I'm staying away to stay spoiler free. Going by the spoilers I've seen so far this fandom isn't so good at keeping their mouths shut so they don't spoil other.

As for trying to stay away from the big spoilers like you are doing. It's so hard but I'm also trying to do that. I'm only reading/listening/watching offical press stuff that won't give the big stuff away like SFX mag, radio times, interviews etc.

I'm using my energy on making Donna/Doctor icons instead. Which is working a little to help stay away from all the TW spoiles with the new episode airing tonight.

If you are fast enough it's usually up next day on youtube but you really have to move before it gets deleted. My limits at the moment are the official DW website. I'm trying not to look at anything else, especially after seeing a set report for episode 12. I don't wanna know anything else.

I tried that with Torchwood and I just wasn't fast enough but I'll see how things go this time with Doctor Who.

Those set reports for the last episodes just killed me and those the type of thing I'm trying so hard to stay away from. Sometimes it's better not knowing.

After I got burned by that last filming report I'm not having that much trouble staying away. Oh I got burned so badly. Now idiot people are using filming report photo icons which is making me more and more angry!

Yeah, I got really upset about that in an icon post so now I'm avoiding all icon posts except yours which I know are safe and a couple of other people that I know are safe. It just burns me that they do that without putting the word spoiler on it. And the spoiler preview icons are often above the cut. Just argh!

Oh, no fair! She hasn't sent it to me yet. *stomps feet* *whines* Of course, I told her I'd be busy until Saturday night anyway so that's why. *smiles* I'm glad my suggestions got her over her writer's block. Now if someone could do the same for me with Of the Vortex Born, I might actually finish it.

It is frustrating, isn't it? I'm dying to see the new eps, but I know it will take the joy out of it for me if I cheat. I ordered two new DW novels for in the between time, though. I've also got HUGE projects coming up for my classes, so I should stay preoccupied.

I just wonder how I'm going to make it through the whole season without the last episode being spoilt. That's really what I'm worried about. Whether it tears my heart out or is greatly joyous, I want it to come as it comes. If I find out ahead of time I'm going to pout and sulk for days. Love that icon by the way. Perfect for all the spoilery posts.

I suspect the delay between the original airing and Sci-Fi's airing has a lot to do with having to have the episode reviewed by Standards and Practices (*snooze*) and...this is the bad part...having someone chop up the episodes so they fit into the 42 minute timeframe or whatever it is.

Thankfully, folks seem to be really good about posting things quickly. I don't think we'll have to wait too terribly long to see it through...*ahem*...slightly less than legal means. ;)

Probably, but can't they preapprove it or something? You'd think. Yeah, I'm sure it'll be up quickly on youtube. Now that Stage6 is gone it's almost impossible to find whole episodes unless you're in one of those underground upload groups and those are nearly impossible to get into even if you find one.

I am trying to avoid spoilers ever since you told me not to look at them, because I would rather be a bit surprised and I'll only worry and obsess if I know to much, especially if it is bad. I am planning on checking possibly youtube tomorrow evening to see if the first ep is posted yet. I have to agree about Voyage of the Damned. I mean I will watch again, but I saw it day after Christmas.
I am also planning on watching Sara Jane Adventures. I saw the first episode a few months back on youtube, but I haven't seen anymore.
Everyone should have a day off or two. Enjoy your new book. My son's(who is severly disabled) nurse reads all those scifi books too. She loves them. Enjoy your kids games this weekend. Looking forward to Chapter 5 of HM.
Glad you have turned a corner on your cold, but don't jump back into doing full activities too soon.

Have to agree with all the comments here about spoilers - they do exactly what they say on the tin - ruin the show, book or film and I don't look for them although get them accidently anyway (I recall getting the new Harry Potter last summer and nearly belting a little kid who was reading the last page out loud behind me in the queue :)). But let me point people wanting a little fix towards last nights Johnathon Ross(I'm sure it will be on YouTube) - Catherine Tait and David Tennant well funny! I'm so glad Donna's back - do you guys know about "The Catherine Tait Show" and all the marvelous characters she's created.

Amber, I apologise for cursing you in my head I thought that I'd been accidently spoiled by reading your fab "Time Eternal" series glad to know it was just guesswork.

I like some of the Catherine Tait Show. I love Lauren Cooper and a couple others, but some of her characters just annoy me. I think she's a brilliant comedy actress though.

I started Time Eternal back in late September or early October before casting for season 4 had even been confirmed. It was my fix-it. All completely out of my head. The only story I wrote based on spoilers was Lost Chance and from the icons I've seen, it's wrong so it's no longer even spoilery.
