Okay, I got a pretty good response on the last poll and I'm kind of leaning towards one of these names at the moment but now that I've eliminated the ones that didn't feel right to people, I'm putting it up for more narrowing down just to see what others think. It will be one of these three names. Listed in alphabetical order.

I love both Cariad and Carina. Voted Cariad because I'm on a Welsh name kick at the moment. Our land line cordless has this cool option of choosing a display 'name' and it's currently named "Eirlys". (meaning Snowdrop, apparently)

I think my recent liking to Welsh names is part Torchwood, part amusement to listen to my family try to pronounce the names.

The pronounciation isn't carry-ath as it has a 'hard d' at the end, its ca-ree-ad , no soft 'dd'/'th' sound in this one. Caru (u sounds like ee) is to love, if you wanted to shorten it occasionally :-)

Yeah, but I already posted the poll before you wrote that and LJ won't let you edit polls. *sighs* So does adding a second d change the meaning or is it by chance an alternate spelling? Because I like it either way, but I like the softer sound better.

Changing the spelling turns it into a nothing word. One leter change in Welsh can give a word an entirely different meaning because of its pronounciation.
There's no alternate spelling in Welsh, sorry.

Now see, the 'dd/th' ending sounds very strange to me, because I know what the pronoucation should be.

If you want my honest Welsh speaking opinion- stick to the correct spelling or maybe I should have offered 'Calon' which is easier to pronounce and means 'heart' ;-)

I love Carina, but given that these are British characters (despite Jonathan's [other]wordliness), and assuming that either Jonathan or Rose would be naming the little dear, I figured a British name was most appropriate. Plus, it's beautiful too. :)

I voted for Carina the first time around but given a Welsh choice with just as good a meaning and every bit as pretty it seems the more appropriate choice. Doesn't Jonathan think he was most recently living in Wales anyway?
