Awaiting the Appointed Hour
“Well, that’s kind of melodramatic, isn’t it?” Rose asked.
“One might think so,” said Romana. “That is, if one did not know how serious I am being.”
“Romana might be a bit pompous, Rose,” the Doctor said. “But she isn’t prone to exaggeration. If she says the fate of reality might be at stake, she means it.”
“Why must we leave tomorrow?” Rose asked. “Surely a few more days here won’t hurt anything.”
“It is best you are on your way by nightfall tomorrow. There are…schedules to keep.” The tiny blond woman had an impatient look on her face.
“Do you know what the next task is?” the Doctor asked.
“That is outside my operational parameters,” Romana said.
“Anything else you can tell us?” Rose asked.
“Only that you have succeeded in the first step, learning the teamwork necessary to complete the Quest in your solving of the first task. As I am sure you are already aware. I have little else I can say at this juncture, only that I will return to guide you if certain goals are achieved by the pair of you,” she said. “I must go now. Good luck on the continuance of your Quest.”
The hologram flickered out and the Doctor immediately put a hand on the console. “You okay?” he asked the TARDIS.
“It is not like before,” said the TARDIS. “I feel sadness, yes, to see her like that, but I have Rose and I have…you.”
“Yes, you do,” the Doctor said and Rose nodded her head in fierce agreement, stroking the support strut.
“I am fine. And the two of you need to eat and sleep. Regain the strength lost in helping my cousins think,” the TARDIS instructed.
“If you need us, call,” said Rose as she walked over to the Doctor and took his hand in hers.
“I will. Now go.”
“She will be okay, won’t she?” Rose asked the Doctor as they made their way to the kitchen.
“I think so. We’ll check on her after we eat to make sure.” When they entered the kitchen the table was set and food was waiting for them. “The TARDIS made us dinner,” he said.
“She must have realized how exhausted our encounter with the drayguins made us.” Rose glanced upwards and said, “Thanks, dear one.” The lights flashed but the TARDIS did not otherwise respond.
They ate the simple supper that the TARDIS had prepared for them and made a brief stop in the Gallifrey room. Rose wanted a bouquet of flowers for the night stand and the Doctor let her have at it as she flitted about the room picking out various selections for him to cut with his sonic screwdriver. She gathered the flowers into a pretty arrangement and they went back to the kitchen for a vase and water.
Rose smiled at the finished product. “It’s lovely,” she said.
“Which night stand are you going to put it on?” the Doctor asked.
Rose glanced up at him, surprised. “I was thinking the one in my room? Why?” she wanted to know.
“Rose, do you…I mean, would you…” He broke off and then took a deep breath. “I’d like you to move into my room with me.” He brought his eyes up to meet hers, suddenly feeling shy and hesitant.
“I…” Rose looked down at her feet and then back up to catch his gaze. “I’d like that,” she told him.
His face broke out into an enormous smile. “We can move things tomorrow or the next day,” he said.
“It’s not like I have anything, Doctor. I walked away from my life with little more than the clothes on my back. Most of what I have I’ve acquired from the TARDIS since I got here. An armful or two, no more,” she replied.
“Wait here,” he said as they reached the door to his room. He took the vase of flowers from her and then set it on the night stand on her side of the bed. “Or do you want the right side? I can change,” he said.
“No, Doctor, the left side is fine.” He walked back to her and bent down a bit, sweeping an arm under her knees and lifting her up into his arms. “What are you doing?” she asked him.
“Carrying you over the threshold, what’s it look like?” he asked. Rose giggled. “I know it’s an Earth custom and though we’re not Earth married, for my people we are newly wed, so I can fudge it a bit if I want to.”
“No complaints from me,” Rose told him as he carried her into the room and set her down on the bed. The TARDIS had laid out a pretty brilliant blue nightgown on the end of the Doctor’s bed.
“You’re sure we can’t make love tonight?” Rose asked him.
“We need to sleep, Rose. And you need another night of healing. Tomorrow will come soon enough and if all is well, you won’t have to ask me that question ever again.” He smiled lasciviously at her.
“You going to be okay if I change in front of you, or shall I go in the bathroom to do it?” she asked him.
“I’d like to watch,” he said. “That is, if it’s all right with you.”
“I want to make love, Doctor. I doubt that would be the case if I was worried about stripping in front of you.”
She unzipped her Capri pants and wiggled out of them. The Doctor was beside her in a flash, helping to remove her top and unfastening her bra and removing it for her. His eyes drank in the sight of her naked breasts and his hand twitched. “Oh, go on,” said Rose. “You know you want to.” Gently he reached out and stroked her breasts for a moment, one hand trailing up to linger on the silver scarred bite mark on her shoulder, before he let out a sigh and grabbed her night gown.
He put it on her and frowned a little as her breasts disappeared from his line of vision. “Come on, Doctor,” Rose said. “Kit off.” With a laugh the Doctor quickly divested himself of his t-shirt, jeans and socks and Rose trailed her hands over his chest and up to his own gold scarred bite mark. “Are these permanent?” she asked him.
“I think so, yeah. When you were hurt, you were mostly unconscious but when I tried to heal that wound, you spoke, told me to leave it alone,” he said. “It’s a bonding mark, branding me yours and you mine.”
Rose smiled. “Shouldn’t like that, but I do,” she told him and he smirked at her. From opposite sides of the bed they slid under the covers and gravitated towards each other in the middle. Rose rolled onto her side and the Doctor spooned up to her back, his arm coming around her and resting around her waist.
They talked softly about nothing important for a little while until the Doctor drifted off mid-sentence. Rose was already asleep.
Rose woke with a tingle of expectation the next morning. She slipped out of bed, used the bathroom, washed her face, combed through her hair and then rejoined the Doctor who was still asleep. She was facing him now and he pulled her back into his body but did not show any signs of being awake. She trailed her hands up and down his back, but found her eyes growing heavy again and before she knew it, she was asleep again.
The next time she woke it was to the Doctor’s hand down the front of her knickers where he was lightly stroking her. He still didn’t appear to be awake. She thought about waking him up but rather wanted to see where things might go and she was thoroughly enjoying the sensations. It wasn’t until he inserted his finger inside her and she gasped that his eyes flew open and she met his sleepy gaze.
He froze for a moment as he suddenly realized what he was doing and she blurted, “Oh, don’t you dare stop.” He smiled at her and continued what he was doing, watching her face and not letting her drop her gaze from his. He slowly brought her to orgasm and she clenched tightly around him. When he finally pulled his hand away he put his finger into his mouth and licked off her juices before pulling her into a kiss.
When he released her she chided, “I’ve heard of sleep walking and sleep talking but this is the first time I’ve heard of sleep sexing,” she told him. He laughed and kissed her again, this time on the tip of her nose.
“I was having a very naughty dream about you, Miss Tyler. You complaining?” he asked her with a smug grin.
“Hardly,” she threw back.
“Come on, time to meet the day,” he said rolling away from her and sitting up on the bed.
“Like my legs are going to work after that,” Rose snorted.
He laughed. “We do have that medical scan to get to, Rose, to find out whether we can make love today or not.”
Rose was out of the bed and on her feet so fast the Doctor broke out into fresh laughter. One might even say the dignified Time Lord was giggling. At that thought Rose joined him in his infectious mirth.
“So,” the Doctor teased, “Shall we scan you before or after breakfast?”
“Before,” Rose said smartly. He came around the bed and took her hand and they walked together to the infirmary.
The scan took awhile because the Doctor wanted to be completely certain that Rose was free of her injuries. Two hours later Rose was wishing she’d had breakfast first as her stomach growled mightily. The Doctor raised his eyebrows at the volume of the sound.
He finished up the scan and looked at her solemnly. “Well?” asked Rose. “What’s the verdict?”
“Well, you’re mostly healed. There’s just a little bit of damage still left to be repaired,” he told her.
Rose bit her lip and her eyes filled with frustrated tears. “Does that mean we have to wait?”
“I can give you an injection directly into the injured hip area,” he said. It should complete the healing process within four hours. We could still make love today. Or we can skip the injection and wait another twenty-four hours. It’s up to you, Rose. I’ll be okay with whatever decision you make.”
“Give me the injection.” She needed no time to make that choice.
“Are you sure?” he asked.
“Give me the damn injection, Doctor. Now!” She kept her voice very firm but her eyes were dancing. The Doctor moved to the cupboard and found the appropriate solution, diluted it to the right concentration and readied a syringe.
“Roll on your side,” he said. Rose did, putting her bad hip upwards. The Doctor’s hand settled on her knee and then slid up her thigh, moving her nightgown out of his way. He tugged her knickers out of the way and injected the medication directly into her hip.
“Feels weird,” said Rose. “All warmth spreading out from the injection site.”
“That means its working.” He used the sonic screwdriver to erase the little needle hole from her skin and to make the little swollen bump it had caused disappear. He stroked his finger over the repaired site, then leaned down and kissed it before pulling her knickers back up and moving her gown over her thigh again.
Rose sat up and with another indignant growl filling the room they decided that breakfast was definitely the next thing on their agenda for the day, though they made a quick stop at their bedroom to get dressed. After a hearty and delicious meal that the Doctor had again insisted on cooking and a quick wash up of the dishes, Rose glanced at her watch.
“So what are we going to do for the next three and a half hours while we wait?” Rose asked him.
“I have an idea,” he said. “There’s a place marked on the map that has mineral mud. It’s highly therapeutic. Might help repair the last of the skin damage.”
“You want to have a spa day?” Rose teased.
“It’s a mud bath,” he said. “Hardly a spa day. Besides, I think painting your body with mud would be downright sexy,” he told her.
Rose glanced at his body appraisingly, thinking about covering it with mud and then better yet, washing it off him rather thoroughly afterwards. Heat rushed to her face and she blushed. “Sounds like fun,” she managed.
“I’ll just ask the TARDIS to take us there.” She followed him into the console room and a few moments later they were landing. They stepped out into a sun-warmed gulch and followed the stream there to where it opened up at the end into a wide mud wallow. Part of the stream diverted into the mud flow and the rest of it carried on down the valley and out of sight.
“We can even wash up in the stream afterwards,” the Doctor said. “Now, Rose Tyler. Strip.” Rose kicked off her flip flops but made no move to obey the Doctor’s command.
“Just like that? No romancing the girl?” she asked.
“I said,” and he stalked up to her, “Strip.”
“Strip me,” she shot back. He moved quickly, his fingers going to the little buttons of her shirt. He slid the shirt off her shoulders and let it fall to the ground before moving to the button and zip of her shorts. He eased them gently down her thighs and then paused for a moment to admire the pale green bra and knickers set Rose was wearing. He fingered the soft satin of her bra before turning her smartly around and unhooking her. He slid the garment off her shoulders then pulled her knickers down until she stepped out of them.
He stood back to admire her body and she let him look. “I think I’d like to keep you like this all the time,” he growled.
Rose blushed. “Oh, I think the ship would have something to say about it if you tried to set up Camp Naked TARDIS in her permanently.”
He laughed and Rose moved to his jeans, unfastening his belt, and unbuttoning the buttons of his jeans. She made sure she had his boxer briefs in her fingers as well before she pulled the lot down to his ankles. On her way back up she gave him a soft caress and a kiss to the tip of his hardening penis. His body jerked in surprise and she giggled, catching the hem of his t-shirt and stripping it off him.
With a laugh of his own he reached into the mud and pulled out a large glob of it and deposited it on Rose’s chest. With slow and methodical movements he began rubbing the mud into Rose’s skin, spending far more time on her breasts than was needed for complete and even coverage, but Rose wasn’t about to say anything.
When he ran out of mud she leaned down and scooped up her own handful, feeling his hand on her bum as she did so. She rose up and made him turn around, beginning by coating the strong muscles of his back with the goop. She loved running her hands over him, feeling the slight indentations of his rib cage, and the thud of two hearts pounding beneath her fingers.
They took turns covering each other thoroughly from head to toe. The last thing either did was gently and with careful fingers, spread the mud over each other’s faces. They lay out on a large flat rock and let the sun harden the mud, flipping over after twenty minutes and waiting again. Finally it began to crack and they scraped off a good portion of it before heading into the stream.
The Doctor had retrieved a bottle of soap from their supplies and the two made liberal use of it, rinsing well several times in the water until the last speck of mud was gone from their bodies. The sun dried them quickly and Rose had to admit that the mud bath had worked wonders. Her recent scarring had disappeared. Well, all but the silver bite, which remained. Even a couple of her deep childhood scars were improved in appearance.
They lay back out in the sun on a different rock for awhile, drowsing lazily for a little while, but not too long for neither of them wanted a sun burn that would put a damper on the afternoon’s activities. They moved into the shade of a tree and spread out a blanket before snuggling up together. The Doctor was stroking her hair and her back and she felt completely at peace. Rose was surprised to find herself drifting off but she let herself go. The alarm on her wrist watch would wake her soon enough and then it would be time.

Date: 2008-03-19 11:05 pm (UTC)I love Rose's reaction to Romana's statement and I am excited that we are going to see more of her.
Oh the romancing was enough for me- take them to bed!
(Did you post the outline? I think I might have missed it)

Date: 2008-03-19 11:52 pm (UTC)Thanks for the great update. It really helped cheer me after I found myself over at Outpost Gallifrey where I read some speculations about the end of Season 4 some of which have me quite worried. I hope even if RTD kills ROse on the show you and all the other talented writers I have read will continue to write her and the Doctor. THanks again. Beautiful chapter. YEAH!!!!

Date: 2008-03-20 03:07 am (UTC)I do like adding that touch of sweetness. He's so bold with the sexuality and flirting but when it comes to emotional things like her moving in with him, he's nervous and uncertain still.
See now, don't look at spoilers. They are evil and will bring nothing but heartache. I'm not looking at them anywhere unless they are on the BBC website and those are just casting spoilers. Because I don't wanna know.

2. They talked softly about nothing important for a little while until the Doctor drifted off mid-sentence. Rose was already asleep.
My husband always says he can tell when I've fallen asleep because I stop talking. All the same, what exactly would they have to say to each other that isn't important?
3. Camp Naked Tardis. I should say the ship would have words about that particular plan.
And excellent shyness on the where-do-we-sleep question. I wondered how they'd solve that dilemma. :) But I'm surprised the Tardis didn't move Rose's things for her already!
Re: Yay! Chapter!
Date: 2008-03-20 03:20 am (UTC)Glad you liked his shyness in asking her to share his room. It felt right for him. Shy about the emotional part and bold about the lusty parts.

Date: 2008-03-20 03:26 am (UTC)I think this series may very well take me a year or possibly two to write. It's roughing out to about two months per story or so. Well, this one I started on 1/24 and I think I'll most likely be done by 3/24 or thereabouts and then start writing Hunger Moon a couple of days after that. Still have to finish my outline for it. All that to say, I think you'll have a while before you have to worry about sating your lust for Nine/Rose smut elsewhere. Plus, I think writing Nine is not something I'll be able to give up. Especially not lusty Nine.
