Help on a missing word

amberfocusWhat is the word that means one thing cancels out the other? My mind has done a complete blank and I need that word. It's not oxymoron. It's um...the other word. Like one thing does not preclude another thing from happening. Or just because one thing is true it doesn't mean the other thing can't be true. This is driving me nuts. Help!
