Pertussis?

The middle school sent home a notice today saying that one of the students had been diagnosed with whooping cough and the infectious period was 3/28 through 5/1. Well, that certainly could be what is going on. I will call my doctor tomorrow. Apparently DTaP vaccines are only good through age 11. I may need a different antibiotic.

I hope you have finally found the solution to your illness. Pertussis is treatable and you can get better. Good luck

I can attest to the fact that the effect of the vaccine can run out. I was vaccinated as a small child, but managed to catch whooping cough at around 11 years of age.

My son was vaccinated, but also caught it when he was 4 (due to a "bad batch", apparently). Unfortunately, he passed it on to me. I coughed so much that I tore the muscles under my ribs. My doctor gave me a codeine-based cough medicine that reduced the coughing and made life a lot easier. The cough lasted for several weeks. I was shocked when the doctor said it was whooping cough. It never occurred to me that my son could have it after being vaccinated.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Argh, you can't catch a break. Hopefully you can get back on track with some more help from your doctor.

Get lots of rest and heal soon.
