It started snowing Monday and pretty much has not stopped since. There was no school today. There is no school tomorrow. We've got about ten inches and they are calling for fifteen. Not sure if that is cumulative or additional, but let's hope it is cumulative. I am worried about our old house in the foothills. The snow is much worse up there and I really worry about the roof during bad snowstorms and whether or not it will bear the load. So far we have been lucky and it's never been a problem. There is no way to get out there to check or shovel off the roof anyhow since the roads are not cleared and I couldn't do it anyway. I suppose if the roof did collapse under the snow load we could just get the insurance money and have the house demolished. Might be easier than fixing it up for sale, that's for sure. At least we finally got the piano out on Saturday. That was the last thing of value still in the house besides Chris's tools.

Chris went back up to work Monday afternoon before the snow got bad. A few hours later and he might not have made it out. There are people stuck up there who are trying to fly home to Seattle and can't. But he did make it, which is good, because four weeks enforced unpaid time off is more than enough, thank you. I may have saved up for it, but I sure don't like it. And it will likely happen every year with this company. But at least we have more than three months' notice from now on and I can put the money aside every month starting now and not have to crash save for it. Though it may not be as much in the first few months as I'd like because our $2500 deductible started over and I've only got part of that saved up for. What I have will go fast though, because of the physical therapy. *sighs* If it's not one thing it's another, but I thank God for the fact that at least he has medical benefits and, you know, a good job. That's a lot more than a lot of people can say right now.

Edited to add: Oh, crap it's not cumulative. It's additional.

Hmmmm, I oughta send my 4 year old out to you then. Pink sunrise yesterday and she was so upset when it didn't snow!

Wow!! I know you don't want to hear it, but I'm jealous (somewhat). Not seeing snow for so long makes it sound like such an exotic thing, although the reality is much less than that. (Send some my way will ya? The entire state would shut down with two inches of snow!) *hugs* about the insurance deductible and the time off. I find myself in the same position at the end of every year with savings that won't quite stretch and it's nooo fun.

I used to live in Nebraska for eight years, so I share your snow pains. It was really, really frustrating having to shovel the snow off my driveway six times at four in the morning (it kept being covered back up!) trying to make it to five o'clock swim practice. Our first snowfall was fun for about thirty minutes, and after that it got too cold and I hated it going out in it from there on out.

Still pretty when it's untouched, though.

I'm glad you secured your piano, and that your husband made it to work on time! Hope everything turns out alright.

I am glad Chris made it out and you retained your piano. It is a bear trying to get those deductibles and such together. You have a plan and that is half the battle.

Not much you can do about the weather. Hang in there, Spring will be here soon.

Ugh. I'm so not a fan of snow either... We've been getting lots of snow here too, but thank God it hasn't been as much as you guys have been getting. And I'm hoping it stays that way...

Yikes! And I thought the seven we're supposed to get Friday is a lot!!!! Although, here in Iowa, it just started winter last Thursday. 40s 50s before that :)

I feel for you. The last two years my cousins in Colorado Springs have gotten snow and ice that lasts, which they seldom ever did before for more than overnight; and my sister in South Dakoka had a river that no one has seen as long as anyone's lived around there. (She's also in foothills) Here in the Midwest, people gripe if they don't have a white Christmas, but few remember how to drive in snow from year to year, so the first few snowfalls are dangerous to be in. I'm sitting here now in a coffee shop watching the sky decide when to dump on us.
