Life Gets Interesting
Jan. 27th, 2009 01:14 pmSo the publishing house that I used to work for as a novel editor, and still do some freelance writing for (mostly things for the company magazine, excerpts for the national magazine, and press releases), sent me a packet yesterday. I had to write a press release on a slander case that has been lodged by one of their authors against someone else. I think it's going to turn quite bitter. I totally understand where the author is coming from, though. I'm a firm believer that people should be held responsible for the words they say, especially when they are nasty, hurtful and patently untrue. This particular person has gotten away with things on various different levels for years, but she definitely crossed a legal line and is still refusing to admit she did anything wrong and has the money to drag out the court case even though everyone is advising her to give it up because she can't win. The publishing house is firmly behind their author and is giving full monetary support. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
Oh, and Selby called me today. He wants to know if I ever finished writing the book he read the first half of. The answer is no, of course. I was going to during NaNo but then life went to hell for a bit and I didn't do NaNo. He showed it to Eric and Eric wants me to finish it. Yeah, maybe this summer once we're done doing homeschooling for the school year I might be able to do that. I just can't believe it. Eric's a really good agent. Just wish I had the incentive to write it now.
