My stupid eyelid is hurting again and just starting to swell up. Fortunately I still have the steroid eyedrops from the last time this happened and I started treatment tonight since there will be no chance of me contacting the doctor before Monday. He gave me much more than I needed last time for the course of treatment, which is good when this happens on a weekend.

The garden has been exploding and I've been canning to keep up with all the fruit. Today I canned six half-pints of apricot jam, 4 pints of blackberry jam, and 8 half-pints of blueberry jam.

It really adds a nice amount to my stash.

I'll still be canning for a while. But I have to pick stuff first. The blueberries are running away wtih me. The blackberries are going at a slower pace but need to be picked to. The raspberries need to get off the canes tomorrow or we will probably lose them altogether. It should be the last picking necessary though.

I've got kohlrabi and cabbage that needs transplanting and I picked up some really cheap everbearing strawberries Joe's Garden was trying to get rid of, just for the heck of it. I know it's not much, but I may go back for more. Just wanted to make sure I had space for what I bought first. I would actually like to make more organic strawberry jam at the rate my husband and son are going through the other. Maybe that's not possible, but we will have to see. Next year I am planting a lot of strawberries, even if they are all in pots up on the porch away from the slugs and the chickens.

Two of my brandywine tomatoes are turning an orangey yellow color. All of my other tomatoes are very stubbornly green. But my peppers are getting very large. No hint of color on them but dark green so far. But hey, I have peppers in July in the Pacific NorthWet (as I like to call it).

The chicks are laying. I'm not sure all of them are, as one batch was born a week behind the others, but several of them are. It's funny seeing their smaller eggs next to the bigger eggs of the older hens. But they will pick up their size soon enough. Meanwhile, no more egg-buying! In another few weeks we'll probably be giving them away.

I am still working on Vortex, it has just been a very busy week in the garden and also I've been researching homeschool curricula. Am looking strongly at Singapore Math. Still not sure on English.
