Pretty Little Liars--201--Reaction Post
Jun. 15th, 2011 08:23 pmAll in all this was a fairly good episode. I'd say fantastic but it would be impossible to top the cliffhanger of last season. It answered some, but not all, of the questions left hanging at the end of last season, and the conspiracy has definitely deepened. Aria, of course, was my favorite, she always is. Despite her relationship with an older man she reacts exactly like a sixteen-year-old girl. And speaking of Ezra, now that he's resigned as a teacher at Aria's school and they are finally free to be together, it looks like that relationship is staying on the rocks. Aria had her trust broken and I think it'll take a while to get that back.
Hanna, is also dealing with something broken...her heart. Bad boy Caleb, who last season completely destroyed her confidence when she found out he'd been paid by blind girl Jenna to spy on her while he romanced her, is back, but hopefully not for too long, thanks to Lucas, who found out that Mona had never given Hanna Caleb's apology letter professing his real feelings. Although he tells her in person, Hanna can't forgive him, and she also severs her relationship with Mona, leaving her ex-friend in tears for only "trying to protect her." Will this leave her ripe for a relationship with Lucas? I sure hope so. He's the best thing in the world for her if he can ever get over his wounded pride and she can ever look past her homecoming queen image and remember who she used to be.
Spencer and Toby's fledgling relationship is joyful to watch. Set against the disapproval of her parents and hisblackmailing step-sister Jenna (who has a creepy history with him herself), they still manage to sneak time together. As she tells him, he is her safe place to land. Awwwww. Meanwhile her pregnant sister's husband is still missing, presumed dead, and quite likely the murderer of Allison.
Emily didn't have too much going on in this episode. She and Toby renewed their friendship and talked about Emily's ex-girlfriend Maya. Nothing was mentioned of Paige, nor was she seen. IMO, Paige is better forgotten anyway. She never held a candle to Maya and her fears of her sexuality being found out just made things irritating. Plus, she tried to drown Emily last season. I don't care what she was trying to hide, you don't have a relationship with someone who tried to kill you. That was weird and all kinds of twisted, even for this show.
The parents of all four girls have insisted they take a break from each other while the police try to figure out the truth behind Ian's disappearance/possible murder. But A isn't letting anyone be...and if the girls don't stick together despite their parents' opposition, then they'll likely be picked off one by one.
Aria's parents seem to be heading back together as her mother has agreed to move back in to the house. I love Aria's parents (Holly Marie Combs and Chad Lowe). I love Hanna's mom, too (Laura Leighton) who is all kinds of awesome. The other parents are kind of irritating. Spencer's parents clearly favor older daughter Melissa and Emily's mom can't accept the fact that she's a lesbian and she can be quite a bitch about it (though her father, away in the military, is accepting, we don't see him much).
Looking forward to the next ep quite a bit. It's going to be another intriguing season.
I can't be the only person watching this show, can I?
