Jumping in to say I agree completely with your thoughts about the Christmas special. It pretty much felt like a repeat of a lot of things in Season 5 (and Moff written episodes before that). The time limit (under an hour) on saving the ship, the Doctor popping in and out of a child's life and shaping the person they become, playing matchmaker...He's done it all before except this time he's doing it with the theme of Christmas and A Christmas Carol.
