SQUEES!

Oh, my gosh, you guys, I just found out they made a movie of Tomorrow When the War Began!  You have no idea how big my squee is right now.  That book is like my all time favorite young adult novel, from my favorite series, ever.  It's got adventure, survivalism, and romance all in a tangled heap.  At times it was scary as all get out and it was so compelling.  I hope they didn't screw it up in the movie.

The movie synopis:

Seven teenagers from a small Australian country town called Wirrawee – Ellie, Corrie, Homer, Kevin, Lee, Robyn and Fiona – decide to pack a Landrover and go bush for the weekend. They don their packs and venture into the wild, little-visited, cliff-encircled gorge called Hell: flirting with members of the opposite sex, mucking about, and generally enjoying themselves so much that they think little of the fleet of planes that fly overhead one night.

When they finally make the return trip to civilisation they emerge into a Hell of a different kind...

I can't wait to see this.  Checks clock.  An hour and ten minutes to go...

Oh, my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh found the trailer.  It looks awesome.

Have you read the sequel series the Ellie Chronicles?

One of my most prized possessions is my collection of TWTWB books - I have 5 out of 7 signed by John Marsden.

did this come out (the book) before or after Red Dawn? sure reminds me a lot of it. Looks interesting though :)

I never did finish the book. I read it while I was on holiday earlier this year and liked it. This film looks like it takes a few liberties I approve of. I'm always for more dramatic explosions.

It was written in the 90's so well after Red Dawn (which was one of my favorite brat pack movies). There are a few similarities, but I think there would be with any set of teenagers surviving an invasion. The fact that it's set in Australia and also not a Cold War movie most prominently make it different.

I think I read the first of the Ellie Chronicles. I can't remember. I should check the library. They came out right around when my second child was born and I got too busy to really read for several years. I always loved John Marsden. I read So Much to Tell You when I was in high school and then for several years after that devoured anything he put out.

Oh, you should do, and then the rest of the series. There are dramatic explosions in the book. If you didn't get to the end, that's probably why you don't remember them.

I know it's not, but it sounds a lot like a U. S. movie from the 80's called "Red Dawn." They apparently are remaking it as well. That film had a big impression on me as it had a very young Patrice Swayze in it.

I would love to see this one when it comes out.
