I have to admit I haven't seen any of the new episodes yet - but there's something I'd like to point out (although I'm not an expert - so tell me if I got something wrong): The licking thing is actually Old Who.I recently watched Destiny of the Daleks (thanks to Youtube) and Romana analyzed some minerals by tasting them (it's somewhere in the first ten minutes). Somehow that was more disturbing than everything Ten ever licked (as far as I recall) because only minutes ago Four mentioned something about some sort of unpleasant radiation...
I guess it's not totally unlikely that he would keep some character quirks...
