You have made me have more thinky thoughts. You point out a few things I hadn't considered like the licking and the was probably written for DT/Ten - in the writer's tale RTD says something about the Moff already having started writing while Season 4 was being written - but I also think about the interview with Jacqueline Rayner about "The Stone Rose" where she said that writing Nine and Ten was very much the same apart from a few catch phrases and what set them apart was the performance - obviously things separated as they went on but yeah.
The child Amelia is actually Karen's cousin - might be the beginnings of an acting dynasty that.
Besides the things in the story that pulled me out of the episode (like the costume for too long, the constant recycling of GIFT et al and the stupid finger snap opening) I thought the CGI was somewhat distracting too - the photography was 'shinier' more movie like I think but then the difference in the quality of the CGI pulled me right out of the experience again and again. I'm sure it wasn't actually low budget CGI, but it was not the same standard as the practical effects and photography for sure.
I went into things dreading the Moff - I still have serious reservations about him but go Matt and Karen and he's welcome to change my mind - I dare him to in fact - overall I did enjoy the episode though.
