Sometimes I Hate the Internet

Because I have spent most of the day dealing with a ransomware virus called deceptively enough AV Secuirty Suite, I have not yet finished my chapter.  I am P.O.'d but I can't even open Word yet.  It's finally scanning and has been for the last hour.  Yeah, I keep too much crap on my laptop itself.  Time to transfer off all my vid files, I think, plus all of the .doc files of completed stories once this is over.  Then these scans of 300,000 odd files (what it's up to now) won't take so long.  I was on such a roll when I finally went to sleep, too.

All I can say is thank goodness for www.bleepingcomputer.com.  So far I haven't had to shell out any money to fix this and their step by step instructions have worked perfectly.  If it would just finish the bloody scan.  Right now I'm on my mother's computer.  It...it has...Windows ME.  And no Word. *shudders*

solarflar3, happy birthday.  I do have something in the works but at this rate it'll likely be week's end.

amyo67, if I ever get my computer back from the evil, dark dwelling place, I still hope to chat.  Unfortunately mom's computer doesn't seem to support YM.

Oh, well, off to the bank and then to get pizza because after the day I've had I freaking deserve it.

I got that today too! And then, in trying to fix it, I somehow deleted the internet. It took me forever to figure out how to make my computer talk to the network again. Frickin' viruses...

OMG!! I'm so sorry about the day you've had. And you totallly deserve the pizza, so enjoy.

I will be around. We seem to have gotten Brendan's temp down into the 99 zone and he's medicated and hydrated and that's good so we can probably just wait and try to get him in with his doctor tomorrow.

So I will be in this evening and will keep my fingers crossed that you get your computer back from the evil, dark, dwelling place.

Computers are evil. I am convinced they rank slightly above vampires with feelings on the scale of evil things. But just below my ex-husband. ;)...You know, I might actually have to make a list now. Perhaps this icon will help cheer you, if only for a moment. It always makes me chuckle.

I SO feel your pain. My husband PAID tp download the same thing 2 years ago. We had to get a new harddrive. Then I 'clicked' and installed it again a few months ago... nice in'it?? Well no sooner had I gotten THAT one off, but my husband downloaded it AGAIN! So now we don't click on things... :) Good luck. Might I suggest this free program Malwarebytes antimalware. It saved my butt ( and the computer)

Yeah, that's the freeware I'm using now. It was what www.bleepingcomputer.com uses to fix this stupid tihng. Which it has done now so after I finish my dinner I am going to go finish my chapter.

I learned not to accept that particular virus after my nephew clicked it on his own computer and he ended up with 14 trojans. Those can be a pain to get rid of.

Ouch. Nasty. As for Windows ME - you have my utmost sympathies. It is HORRIBLE. It makes Vista look appealing and that is saying something.

The exact same thing happened to my computer early this summer. Thank god for computer nerd little brothers.
