Well, she's not really wishing for him to be understanding and loving. That really wasn't what it was about. She wanted him to be supportive and not freak out when she needed him and he wasn't. He pushed her very hard away from him and was quite cruel while doing it. For two months he's been closed off and she can't quite trust this sudden turn. People can only take so much abuse before they shut down.
I wouldn't even say she was acting like a bitch to him. She was trying to get him out of the room before she broke down. She is trying to be strong and protect herself from further heartbreak. Crying in his arms is not going to make her feel strong, it'll just make her feel weak at this point. She's afraid to need him in case he turns on her again.
Rose is naive. She still was at this point in the series. She really didn't lose her naivety until probably School Reunion/Girl in the Fireplace. I'm just following that with her here.
